Poker in Vegas - Off the Strip
Anyone know anything about the poker rooms at The South Point, Silverton, Green Valley or M casinos?
Don't want to venture down to the strip although it might be easy money from the drunk tourists!!

in the old downtown part i made most my money at the golden nugget playing 1-2nl. the 4 days i was laying there they had no less then 2-3 tables going but much more during peak hours. u get to know the regulars who play there and i avoided their table and played on the table with the most the tourist. easiest money i made playing poker.

Orleans is a good room, but the real money is taking drunk kids cash at Rio, Palms, or Hooters.

I enjoyed playing at the Red Rock hotel.

              Cheers.

Not true at all, especially at the smaller locals casinos that OP is referring to. Most won't have games between 3 and 7 AM.

I recommend checking out the offstrip forum at allvegaspoker.

                    To answer your question...

South Point is the busiest of the rooms on the south side of town. It's the only one that consistently gets games lasting to the morning. The games can get very good late night, but otherwise the action isn't so hot. For some reason the room seems to attract a lot of low class locals and tourists, which can ruin the atmosphere and fun of the game. The dealers are a mixed bag. There are a lot of bizarre rules here, like no buying the button and a hooded sweatshirt ban. The floors here have a policy of never starting games shorthanded, so you sometimes have to wait around for 45 minutes to get into a game even though there are 7+ names on the list. If you like obscure games, South Point gets 2-6 spread limit hold 'em daily.

I've played at the M Resort less than any of the others on the list. The casino itself is beautiful and the buffet and sportsbook are both very good. I wasn't as impressed with the poker room. Dayshift is polluted with angry retirees. I do, however, know several people who live in that part of town who greatly prefer M to South Point.

Green Valley Ranch is my favorite of the rooms on the south side of Vegas. Games break on graveyard shift fairly early, and I don't recommend their 2/5NL game, but their 1/2NL and limit games are great. Games are soft, the dealers are good, and the staff is excellent. This is the only room I know of that comps you for time played in tournaments. They have (IIRC) an O8 tourney on Mondays and a HORSE tourney on Wednesdays that are fairly popular. The bar is right next to the poker room so cocktail service is very fast. GVR itself is located right next to "the district" an area with lots of popular bars that's worth checking out.

Silverton is a pretty underrated casino. The fish tank is cool and I'm a huge fan of the shooting gallery arcade game inside the Bass Pro shop. Don't waste your time on the poker room though, it's almost completely dead even during swing shift. When they do get a game going it's low limit (I don't remember if they spread 3/6 or 2/4) and the games are often played shorthanded before breaking up. Occasionally they do huge promotions with house money, but they're not worth going after because of the lack of games.
