I can understand that for some it may be to learn and practice. However, you have so many a**holes that play ridiculously loose because they aren't losing anything. Not really a great way for a new player to get a handle on the strategies of poker. Ya think?
Why do people play poker with play money??

#4It is good practice for learning hands if your new. Some times you can get in a good table where people really play like they're using there own money.Comment -

#7But there seems to be so much looseness that 9 times out of ten you can't get a serious grip on the game if you are trying to learn.

#11Its only good for learning the basics and getting a feel of the game.Otherwise its just a waste of time, its an extremly unrealistic style of play, everyone always calls no matter what and goes all in alot.Comment -

#12I don't believe one can really learn the game from play money chips because there is no value in it. Its better to conquer the game from free-rolls than risking your own money.Comment -

#15Bad players that don't care about chips are the best players to play with when starting out. You quickly find out how to exploit weaknesses if you're focussed and studying the game. In real cash games there are tons of people playing very loose. If you go to a casino and sit down at a random table there should be at least 2 players that are consistently in almost every hand. These are the players you will make your money from. Learning how to exploit them is an excellent way to become a winning real money player. Also it's never a waste of time to play for play chips or low stakes when starting out. If you can't dominate the easy games, you wont win the real games. Unrealistic or not, you will encounter similar players in real money games. These players wont be there as often, but they will be there. Anyone that's starting out in poker should either start at play money or $0.01/0.02. Learn the game and beat every level. Every level will teach you something new. Even if you're rich, the only reason you would play any higher than that when starting out would be to donate your money and not to "learn faster". If you were to start out at higher stakes it would be practically impossible to exploit anyone. There would be so many players that can outplay you, out read you and can adjust to any strategy you want to play. Even higher stakes tables have weak players, but it's hard to learn how to beat certain players if you don't see them that often. I'm assuming you made this post because you are thinking of depositing or trying real money. The best thing you can do is beat the play money first. If you start with 1000 chips turn it into a million. If you can do that you should be able to beat low micro stakes games. Slowly move up level by level and never think that it will be easier to beat tables with less loose players.Comment -
