Read getting started in Hold'em by Ed Miller. Register a name on 2+2 forums and read the beginners section. Don't register for or download any poker software until then. If you want to deposit get a kickback deal from a poker site for pokerstars. If you don't want to deposit do a no deposit bankroll anywhere but full tilt poker (which should be reserved for rakeback).
