Cake's VIP system of "Gold Coins" "Gold cards" and "Gold stacks" is a bunch of confusing rubbish if you ask me. If you love the idea of getting in to MTT's occassionally maybe you can find use for them. I never used a single one the entire time I was on the Cake network via PlayersOnly, but then PlayersOnly moved to the Merge network (where Carbon is) and the converted all that gold crap to VIP points, but at a ludicrus exchange favoring - you can guess who. (not the players). Carbon (merge) has a more simplistic and therefore better VIP program, but I don't think you're allowed to use it if you get rakeback, which you definitely want. I got paid out by PlayersOnly after sending driver's license copy to authenticate.

Oh, and Cake has the bigger network. Sometimes you'll have trouble finding games on Carbon (Merge). Be sure that you love six seater cash games, as opposed to full ring, if you go that route.

i like them both for private tourneys, and money added events, payouts slow the 1st time around but fast the 2nd time around for both

I use both daily. Feltstars and Reefer both sister sites to carbon are best of merge sites. Cake and Doyle are best of cake network. Cake network has better ring but Merge has very good bad beat. All have plenty of private games and specials. Feltstars has casino and sportsbook with lots of free stuff.

I think Merge network bigger now, Players only and Lock Poker left Cake network to join Merge.

Agreed! If he does not know what rakeback is or how to sign up, I recommend researching it or asking first. If you join directly without, you will regret not having later.
I recommend Carbon by a mile right now. Cake's traffic has really dried up since Jazette took all its sites.
