MIT poker theory and analytics online course
This course takes a broad-based look at poker theory and applications of poker analytics to investment management and trading. This course is offered during the [Independent Activities Period (IAP)](http://web.mit.edu/IAP/), which is a special 4-week term at MIT in January. IAP provides members of the MIT community including students, faculty, staff, and alums with an opportunity to organize, sponsor and participate in a wide variety of activities and topics that are often outside of the regular MIT curriculum. **Faculty Advisor**: Paul Mende

Who wants an education in advanced poker theory?

Whether you like to play poker online for fun, or want to wipe the floor with your buddies at your regular poker night, this free online course from MIT can help you learn the game inside and out.

The course is hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s OpenCourseWare, and is taught by Kevin Desmond, a pro level poker player and MIT graduate student.

The free course has eight video lectures for you to watch covering everything from basic strategy to advanced decision making, and makes all of the lecture notes available for download.

Everything you need to take the course is included, but be warned, it’s a graduate level course; so Desmond takes a pretty deep look at the game of poker. Who knows? You might even learn a thing or two that can help you outside of playing poker as well.

There’s no registration required, so if you want to become a poker master, check out the link.

graduate level MIT course. Bet that costs a pretty penny not to mention you probably have to have a 1600 SAT score to get accepted

Keep in mind these guys are pretty much geniuses who are busy solving real world problems and this is a course that uses poker theory to mirror decision making using incomplete information in the real world. When you're that smart and have a chance to advance humanity why waste your potential on poker? There's a huge difference between knowing all the math and beating variance. I can't find a hendon profile on Desmond but you can't argue with the results of Bill Chen or Matt Hawrilenko(aka hoss_tbf online)

I just went over the lecture notes for MTT's. Some good stuff in there for anyone who is trying to improve. If you can go over those notes and understand everything then you have what it takes to beat low/mid stakes online. Its hilarious how many of the players in the dailies here let their stack fall in the dead zone, hahahahahahaha. One thing I didnt see much of was table adaption. Gotta be able to play all styles, loose-aggressive, weak-passive, tight-aggressive, etc depending on table dynamics.

Some of the info is outdated though, like always c-betting 2/3 pot.
