Some anomalies I've noticed about sportsbetting
A neutral crowd at a sporting event will pull for the underdog (Olympics, NCAA bk tourney), but the betting public will tend to bet the favorite.

A casino takes a lot of action on, in fact depends on gamblers betting the longshot. They make tons of money on people betting the eleven at craps, trying to get dealt a royal at let it ride, or looking to hit a jackpot on a slot machine.
Sportsbettors however almost never bet a single straight bet getting 50 or 100 to 1. If there is a longshot sportsbettors usually are laying the chalk to make a seemingly sure score or as part of some combination of huge favorites in a parlay, the total opposite of what goes on in a casino.

Would you agree with this? Any explanation you can think of?

      My two cents

About the neutral crowd, If they don't have any money in it, of course they pull for underdogs to make games entertaining. They don't want one-way games, also why would they root for the "bad guys"? The betting public want sure-winning bets, so they go with favorites.

At casino, most of people bet long shots with 1 or 2 dollars, max is probably 10 dollars. You rarely see people bet $50 or $100 on 11 at craps or being dealt Royal Flush. Same thing in sportsbetting, people do take long shots with small amount of money. You see people in this forum bet $10 on parlays that pay 100:1 or 200:1

Ok good point about the bet size with longshots. But with the neutral crowd thing, the public bets the favorite against the spread, not moneyline, so its not about the win percentage

Even you're talking about spread, it would be still the same mentality. For people that don't do any handicapping, they want to put their money in better teams. Of course, not all of public bet favorite.

Also, in your neutral crowd example, I think you compare two different things. One is for entertainment, the other is mainly for money.
