What do you think about Nick B getting the William Hill gig in Vegas? Always liked him. Guess the tout biz wasn't going so well. They reached out to Johnny A first but he's got it made at Wynn.

I don't know what to think. It's definitely a good fit for Will Hill though. He fits their (at least offshore) model pretty well. They are extremely timid. I just hope that doesn't carry over too much here. The consolidation of all of these books isn't bettor friendly in the first place though. Will be interesting to see if he deals his own numbers or if they're just going to clone Will Hill. If I were John, I wouldn't want the job either. He runs the show at Wynn. Yup. That's what I thought. If MGM or Caesars was to sell their books to Cantor, Hill or another group Vegas would be real bad for the player. I asked a friend who manages a book how they did 2h lines in hoops and he said they usually follow Pinny. John said they will likely give Nick a little wiggle room at first and see what happens.

I can't see how anyone can make money from slots unless you're chasing progressive slots, from casino to casino, all day. If you got insider info and know which slots are loose, you MIGHT break even, but you'd still have to be monitoring that sh*t. Soon you'll need partners, that means split the winnings, that means NOT +EV.

The ONLY book that I can see hiring AM for over 6 figures is Cantors. But I would think it's more the people he brings in, not his ability to crunch numbers.

Cantor isn't paying that kind of money. The guys at Venetian aren't breaking 50 aside from former vp who Cantor absorbed.

FH used to hit those gem slots that were close to making a complete line. He'd wait for a guest who got sick of machine to get off it and plunk say $100 in and get the final gem and make a tidy profit. Those games are long gone. The vp prog teams virtually disappeared when progs got capped at a certain figure to limit house exposure and a lot of places booted the teams altogether or cut their comps to lower their perceived advantage. They can thank Bill Granoff aka Bob Dancer for that.

Mathy- obviously I have a schedule. I put in anywhere from 6-16 hours a day depending on what project I am on. I enjoy my job right now. Love learning from those that have knowledge to share. Having done work on corporate compensation committee I have a decent idea of what each job pays and in race and sports unless you own the shop or have a ton of money to wager you aren't retiring anytime soon. No casino manager job pays more than 100k a year. Once you hit director and up the money makes the job worthwhile if you have an endgame in sight. I do and figure I'm 6 years away from being able to start my own business again. I actually respected fh when I started here. It takes a lot of effort to do the Vegas grind full time. A few of his stories didn't add up and I lost the respect I had for him. You have your view and I have my mine. I dig some of your creative insults but red suede suit...not happening. Riding a goat....nah. I don't drive here period. Too many Asians.

JJ- slots are a dead end for a career unless you can get a vp job. Not much growth potential for casino workers. Get an MBA. They are looking for numbers guys, not casino experience now. Like I said before, if you move to Vegas I would meet you and try and get you a job that fits you.

The whole Cantors thing is because they take really large wagers. I mean, really large. Like they cater to people who make $10,000 a unit bet.

Anyone who works in a sportsbook knows it's hard to make $10,000 on a game.

If someone could bring in guys who bet like this (and lose their bankroll), I can see them making 6 figures. The "assistant manager" is just a title, what their real job is, bring in the big whales to lose their bankrolls.

You don't need a degree to run over when you hear the word "Key!" and approve/deny a wager, to call the hub and tell them that they graded a game wrong, or to bring money to/from the cage.

Probably more than 80% of the time the managers are former writers in the first place.

It's not an important job.

You need a degree for just about ANY job these days unless it is part time or manual labor. So I would say the chances of them requiring a degree for even an assistant position is going to be pretty high. Especially considering how many actual qualified people there are around who have degrees in something that would compliment the position.

Any business degree, hell even some hospitality associate's degree would work. It wouldnt even have to be a 4 year degree. But they want some sort of education past high school I can tell you that. Like I said the days of old school guys with street smarts getting jobs around vegas or basically any land based casino are gone.

Obviously they dont give those types of degrees but they would more than likely want something associated or at least in the ball park. I am sure if there were some connections a person might get away with a liberal arts degree as long as it showed a post secondary education of some sort.

Not going to keep commenting on this because I dont want to keep bumping this nonsense up every day, but I know a lot of guys in the corporate world and they all want some sort of degree, even if theyre hiring for a temporary position. But a long as someone is going to qualify for benefits and any sort of health plan or even a 401K option are going to need a post graduate degree of some sort.

Wrong a degree is meaningless in television. You can make 6 figures a year as long as you start as a production assistant and just move up and keep getting promoted. Even with a degree you start from the bottom. The only thing that matters is experience.
