BTW ... how bad did they fleece the Red Sox getting Melancon + extras for Hanrahan + extras? Hanrahan was bad before he blew his elbow out. Melancon is practically unhittable. Brock Holt has decent numbers at Pawtucket, but this trade looks like a real steal right now.

In defense of the Sox and Melancon...he couldn't get anyone out last year. They gave him a shot to close last year and he was awful. Downright awful. The change of scenery did him wonders.

The Bucs are one of the best teams in baseball when it comes to selling high.

Always need a bat, but they will need pitching too IMO. With the injuries and potential bullpen overuse ... arms will be needed.

a) Locke is gonna have too many innings come October at this pace and will get dead arm from the big jump in innings
b) injuries
c) even if Wandy and AJ come back healthy... Liriano could get injured easily, plus he is erratic... Gomez and Morton are not trust worthy either.

There is no doubt, when healthy, AJ is the #1. I would say when all is healthy, the rotation is AJ, Wandy, Locke, Liriano, Cole, Gomez, Morton.

Cole has to be sent down for Arbitration purposes....plus they can better limit his innings, and he could be available in late august. It's not what people want to hear, but it's the reality of the situation. The goal isn't World Series this year....its respectability. When you've been the worst team in pro sports for 20 years, you dont start taking huge risks at the exact moment that you turn the corner. This team honestly has a shot at being a contender for 5-6 years with a little luck. Let's be sensible.

The Bucs JUST started winning, and have done so by using their business model. Soriano doesnt fit that model. Joe Mauer as a player does, but his contract sure as shit doesnt. It's a terrible contract. I'd love to have him....but hes not worth it.
