i dont like the way the rah rah bobble head radio retards here in stl were talking all week saying shit like "do you really think pit can take series from cards down the stretch?" even had the nerve to say buccos were more likely to collapse than the spankees who are terrible.. obviously w/o any bias it easy for me to say cards are the best team in the div as it true but these fools that saying this shit make me nervous. i mean it real easy for buccos to take series from cards in the second half as long as they set up rotation where locke and liriano pitch against us that a damn good chance at 2 out of 3 seeing how cards swing at any crap pitch a lefty throws..not to mention alverez been owning the cards since before bucs were even a thought in the div...i dunno, def more scared of pit than cincy cause cards match up really well with cincy and not so much with bucs, if you guys pen can hold up should be a hell of a race..

ah the 2nd half collapse theory for the Pirates again?

it basically has really only happened once in my lifetime, yet everyone seems to think it is something they do every year.

Last year, they were playing far far far far above their heads, their hitting in the early summer was off the charts.

it was bound to break down.

they are playing far above their heads now, but nowhere near like last year.

they are on pace for 100 wins. I see 89-91 being realistic. Which should keep them in contention.

but like WVU said earlier, anything good that happens this year is just icing before the cake is even done.

2014-2018 the Pirates look like they might be legit threats to win 100 games a year for real.

so since buccos been a very young improving team and they fell short last few years in second half you think the natural progression is to continue to fade or continue to grow and improve? not like they getting worse they been improving for several years straight. also unlike last yr cutch has been good but not insane like he was 1st half last year where he carried the offense, if anything i think his numbers get better the second half this season..the pen has logged a ton of innings but if they can add a arm to eat some innings and keep the back end fresh there is no reason not to think they dont hang around and contend for a playoff spot, maybe they come up short but they will be right there till the end imo.

damn somebod might burn down that stadium they havent had a winning team in 20 years and now they send down and undefeated pitcher who is better than stephen strasburg?

              yikes
well, maybe they won't send him down (I actually wouldn't mind Nutting having to shell out some serious cash on him, if they sign him to extension before his arb years)

bad news is, that many of the other Pitchers may not return, AND now Wandy is surely gonna exercise his player option and stay a Pirate for 2014 and get paid 13 million I think. (Pirates inherited that option when they traded for him)

              • Wandy Rodriguez has been shut down from pitching after continuing to feel left forearm tightness in a throwing session yesterday. He will be evaluated by the team’s medical staff to “determine the next steps,” the team said.

              • Minor league pitchers Kyle McPherson and Phil Irwin (right elbow pain) have both been shut down as well.

              • On the opposite end, A.J. Burnett (right calf strain) threw 38 pitches out of the bullpen Friday and the team is “happy with his progress,” manager Clint Hurdle said. Burnett is scheduled to throw a simulated game Tuesday that will test his ability to field and cover first base.

              • Reliever Jared Hughes (right shoulder inflammation) also threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Friday “without incident” and will throw another on Tuesday.

              • James McDonald (right shoulder discomfort) will not immediately see Dr. James Andrews. Instead, McDonald will get a “second opinion” from Dr. Keith Meister, the Texas Rangers’ head team physician. A scout I spoke with said it is not unusual for a pitcher to seek an opinion from another team’s physician, and Meister has his own sports medicine practice in Dallas.

It appears Burnett is not be far from returning to the Pirates’ rotation, where he would likely be joined by Gerrit Cole, Francisco Liriano, Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke.

First to 50 wins boys! The schedule leading up to the ASB is very weak. The second half schedule is brutal. No Sunday lineup tomorrow please...lets stash away wins while we can. Give Russell a day off, but no one else.

Mckenry in for Martin and Barmes for Mercer today. Otherwise, same starters from last night. Charlie never seems to get a full lineup.

2nd half schedule will be much tougher then what theyve been up against lately, do have a big interleague series with the a's coming up.

right off the bat after the asb reds and national on the road, then a massive 5 game home series with the cardinals in late july, also will see the cardinals twice in august. fairly tough september 6 against reds 3 against cards on road and 3 at texas, this team goes 500 second half of the year they still win low 90s and should be enough for a wild card, which seems pretty realistic, the 14 games with the cardinals and 9 with the reds will decide their fate ultimately.

o yankees are completely finished btw.

Should be an all-star for many years. In a few years an outfield of Marte, Cutch, Polanco might hit 90 hrs and steal 150 bags in a season

Mike McHenry to have knee surgery.

might actually be a good thing.
