books never lose because of juice...

the term books "lose" refers more to the fact that they didnt "win"... meaning they left potential profit behind from what could've been if underdogs came through or if "square" sides lost...

so in terms of what i have described, yes books have been losing more often than not this year in NFL, but im sure they will make it in 1 good week.

Books can go busto just like players. Why do you think Billy Walters cant get his own bets down.

I know for a fact that David Skalansky has busted at least one book.

vegas is surely winning at NFl this year. However I would be quick to agree they aren't having a great season. Now that the NFL is about "protecting the quarterback" scoring is up and that favours overs and public teams with good QBs.

My grandfather used to run a book, then he quit the business but still works closely with a local, he said it has been an up and down season, there have been alot of sports where the public killed it. I am not sure if he is down though.

thats rediculous.. there are definitly people who are up lifetime. the vast majority of people are not and vegas is definitly up lifetime but there are people who make their living off betting.

O/U is exactly 50%, public is around 45%

SportsMushroom is a moron, dude probably has never even been in a sportsbook.

It all depends on what sportsbook you are talking about in Vegas. Some books, Cantor, Coast Casinos, maybe even Hilton cater to bigger bets and sharp action. Other books, Stations, Jerry's Nugget, South Point/Palms, cater to more parlay type of bettors and are most likely up. I know that Cantor actually stopped allowing 1st half totals and 1st half sides in the same game to be parlayed together this season, most likely because they lost a lot of money allowing sharp guys to correlate these 1st half bets for large amounts.

There are a lot of people that believe that Cantor is down this season with college and nfl. Only a few people actually know what the figures are. If you just follow line movement one might conclude certain books are down money, but who knows.

Disagree. Doubling the price of crack won't make crackheads quit. Most bettors who do minimums normally put down numerous bets. Now they may just half that while still putting up the same amount of cash.

the minimum was $5 and jumped to $10. by the way, when denver/san diego game went into overtime and they said line was a pick. people went rushing up to bet and when game was over, only a handfull was in line to collect. they made a killing on that overtime game

Kornegay from the Hilton once said sportsbooks only have to win roughly 40% of the time to come out ahead due to parlays and other exotics.

This is probably a down year for them on CFB, but they're still ahead. They will always make a killing on the NFL. A donkey could take NFL bets and make money. If sportsbetting were a casino floor, the NFL would be the slot machines.

For Vegas to be down in the short term is a blessing...How many gamblers do you know that are up longterm...they always come back and drop twice as much after a few wins..

I know for a fact that David Skalansky has busted at least one book.
Is he still around? Man, he has to be in his 60s. I think it's spelled Sklanski or Sklansky. Well, if he busted them, it's their fault. They should have booted him long ago. Sharp guy and nice fella. Poker used to be his forté about 20-25 years ago. Good mathematics guy.

I think the public has been making a killing on the colleges this year without a doubt. I think the pros the books have done well.
