#143So they are purposely breaking laws, which will end in punishment of some kind, and then everyone will hate the law enforcers; what has that proven? The punishment for their actions is just for that law broken. But just because they are punished for that action doesn't have anything to do with their movement or changes they desire. Which is why movements like these burst in to flame but then die out with time. If their decisions on WHERE to protest (not just some random pathway at UCD) and what to protest were directed towards the change they wanted, then more people would understand and the chance of change would be greater. If a group of ppl wanted their team to not sign Barry Zito for 20 million a year for 7 years, they should be in front of the stadium and even the GMs house protesting; they shouldn't be protesting on some random lawn.
We arent talking about a building or a person. We are talking about the whole way our system is designed. why does it matter where the location of the protest is?Comment -

I think we can all agree that world peace would be nice. But his over generalization of southerners as well as the Lutheran/Catholic analogy when saying human nature is nonexistent...only parenting....is a bit off in my view. Human nature IS a major factor....thoughout history....whether we use paper currency or natural resources....and economy has to have levels...not everyone will be satisfied or attain their larger share. People are genetically inclined to either be a more active or lazy individual, high maintenance or satisfied with the minimum. This goes for current American society....Tribal....old west....European...or older times....no community has ever survived static with no tiers of some sort. I can watch my little girl play at the park or with my nieces/nephew and you can see it in them...14 months up to 4 years old....all individual personalities.Comment -

Power company lineman will ride the bucket truck up on the lines at 10 below in icy weather to restore power in winter for free?
AC guy will climb up in your attic to fix duct work in 120 degree summers for free?
Woman will clean your hotel room in Lake Tahoe for your family vacation to go smooth for you for free?
Guy gonna clean out your septic tank and porta johns at the local concert for free?
NFL caliber players will wreck their bodies to play for free?
I don't think so. You should pick up a copy, or download 'How an Economy grows and Why it crashes" by the Schiff's....it's a great read if you're into economics....informative but still written in a fun way unlike the other books on economic theory...uses analogy of a from scratch society on an island and how human nature and selected skills play out in growing a prosperous civilization.Comment -

#151Only a completely mindless leftist sheep would buy into that. "Resource based economy" is a euphemism for communism. Except that in this case, instead of the state bureacracy managing things, a master computer will magically will. Yet he says there is no ruling class and everything will be so happy and perfect. Yep the master computer will just run the world with insane technology. No corruption, no greed, no warsComment -

If there were 1000 ppl in your house and wont leave, what would you do?
Also, location is key; Gandhi's 240 mile protest walk had to do with getting salt with no tax, that is why they walked 240 miles to the sea to make salt from sea water; and then they were arrested for this.
If ppl want to protest: stop paying taxes, stop paying 100 dollars a month for your phone, ...
If a large mass stopped doing these things, the powers that be will have to take notice.Comment -

We arent talking about someones house. But even if we were, the "occupiers" all pay taxes, so they all kind of own a piece of the house. If 1000 people are protesting in a public park, and old man jones cant walk his dog in the same area that he usually does...WHO GIVES A F***! we are talking a complete overhaul of our monitary system.Comment -

If I sound like an old coot, I am not. I am in my late thirties. I had a fantastic job for a decade and the company went-up in 2008. I took a job out of my comfort zone because times were tough in my chosen field. It was a 40% pay cut from where I was but it had potential and upside. In the short term I did what I had to do and downsized my car payment. I worked my ass off and became a proficient expert in my new job and worked my way up to where I am now. While it is unlikely that I will ever make it to become a 1%er, I refuse the defeatist attitude of the OWS losers who are professional victims and will always be losers because their "blame others" attitude will never let them succeed.

Same thing goes for Russell Brand and DeCaprio and these other celebs who 'feel the Occupy pain'....if you do then live it.....if you think the richest have too much and the little guy is squeezed think back to before you made your Hollywood millions....now that you have it go down to the camp and each of you pick 20 people and give them each $100k cash....so $2 million charity a piece from the celeb....this doesn't equal even one movie paycheck for them.....but it will change the lives of those down trodden people who they believe are sincerely hard working and mistreated people right?
It's comical how so many people say 'oh yeah I think this and that and this should be done by others for this and that' but when you tell them 'you're right that would be great, let's start with YOU doing it?" they turn into stuttering idiots and change the topic.Comment -

#162My observations on the video is, the cops told them they are going to be sprayed.
They had time to sit down, bow their heads and cover their eyes. They had time
to move out of the way if they didn't want sprayed.

If you want to get technical, the laws were not broken on the current spraying incident since A- the spray was not used in an attempt to get the protestors to undo themselves from those 'black bears'....and like I stated previously...those larger Riot canisters are far less potent than normal individual cans of OC or the foam etc- I've had both certs done in previous careers and can tell you that you can spray that large canister directly on someone outside and it have no effect other than wetness....not an irritant unless indooors/confined space. It's meant as a deterrent and not a forcible submission action such as the single OC even on a previously used spray can. Also law enforcement have laws in place giving them full use of these devices if they do not have a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio officer to offender.....for their protection since they are forced to be in confrontations 3-5 days per week over a long term period the odds stack up for injury.
At end of the day....any logic other than 'they should have just listened to lawful orders and several warnings of what was about to happen if non compliant' and dispersed is just pandering.....could have come back later but they chose to have it happen. I'll bet you $$ right now not a single court judgement will come against these officers for this.Comment -

#166In the facts of this case, there were only three protesters who were able to removed in a couple minutes by officers. That is why SCOTUS decided a reasonable jury could find the use of pepperspray was unreasonable. In the UC Irvine video there were many, many more protesters blocking the path that one could argue made the use of pepper spray necessary. However, you could also make a much stronger argument that is was objectively unreasonable using the parameters in the appellate ruling.Comment -
