A class action lawsuit will be started against this company in the next month. Already there are 3 people on board. If you have received collection notices from this glorified collection agency please email me at (my handle)@gmail.com This collection agency collects for such stellar companies as betcris and bodog. In order to get around US laws they will send you a letter claiming they are collecting for a processing company(latest is midas cashier). This would be like reniging on your citibank **** account and then having **** come after you. A complete joke.
If you dispute with JMC they will simply ignore it and continue with collection. You may also find the following verbage on your dunning letter(which they have been sued for in the past and present).

"XX has forwarded your account information to our office. They advised us that they have been in contact with you and you have not honored this debt. After reviewing the aforementioned paperwork, we advised our client we are pursuing full payment for them"

The XX would be a company that you have no doubt never heard of much less heard from. This is called false representation and is illegal. I would bet anything their paperwork is also imaginary.

They will no doubt then use the phrase "Should you choose to voluntarily pay this obligation...". There is the implication that legal proceedings will be brought against you if you do not voluntarily pay the alleged debt. They are being sued in federal court right now for stating that in their dunning letters. Rest assured, this company does not sue, does not pull your credit, and does report these illegal debts to your credit report.

I have been doing consumer advocacy work for about 7 1/2 years. Debt collection laws are my specialty. If you are being harassed by this company please let me know asap. I know alot of attorneys(and I do mean alot) and have already talked to a huge lawfirm that specializes in class action lawsuits and they are certainly willing to look at this case. Keep in mind that by class action lawsuit I do not mean the typical here is a coupon for $1.50 as your settlement. Debt collection laws are typically 1k per action(not per violation).

They basically go after people who do chargebacks on CC deposits, or write bad e-checks. The poster is claiming (correctly, IMO) that the collection company is violating the Fair Debt Collection Act.

i ain't ever got nothing, but i ain't ever used an e-check or ever done a charge back.

i did get a call one time from some lady saying she was an attorney from some place and wanted to talk to me about my case and the docket # was such-n-such, it was just some collection agency trying to get me to pay an old medical bill, trying to scare me into thinking i had a court date.

Hey I just found this thread.....

Anyways I didn't get anything in mail, they just called me and left me a voicemail out of the blue. Half the message was cutoff, so I called back to see what and who it was. That's when I found out they said I owed Cris 2220. Anyways I posted a thread about this and it explains it all. I will keep watching this thread.

So what do I do? Lay low? They said they had my ip address? Ah ok.

Latest person is being collected on by Bodog. Hahaha. Maybe instead of sending people to collections they should try paying their own bills. The pot calling the kettle black anyone?

Yeah I found this forum by searching on "joseph mann creed"

I have received telephone calls from these people and others for an account that was set up somewhere by someone. Get this: the only info they have on the account is a telephone number, a made-up company name, and my PO Box. I have asked for name of the contact (um, er.. I will have to call you back with that..) I have asked for the legal business name on the account (they quote the bogus name). They never fail to ask for my name which I never give them.

This time I got the callers name and company name by politely asking when she called and asked for the "accounts payable dept". I then proceeded to explain to the person that they were participating in the crime of wire fraud. That seemed to throw off their game and they were really anxious to hang up. They said I as yelling at them. I wasn't. But I *was* enjoying myself making them squirm for a change.

Here's an idea that I wish I thought of earlier:

If you are contacted by phone, have some fun with them.
                        1) Put them on "hold" for while as you "get someone from accounts payable".
                        2) The after 3 or 4 minutes, pick up the phone and say "hello, may I help you" as if you are talking to them for the first time.
                        3) After they explain it all again, got back to step 1.

Repeat until either you get bored or they hang up

                        Have fun guys.

Are they contacting you for a commercial debt?

Man I really wish I could say what is going on now but I do not think I am allowed to. Heck I only probably know 10% of what is going on now anyway but it will be big you can count on that. The hand that feeds is about to be bitten by its own mouth. Phase 2 and 3 are also about to start. When I get the green light I will break the news here first.

                                      JM&C are still kicking

They just sent me a second dunning notice telling us to pay up or else. The irony is, my husband was involved in a slight fender bender (which is probably how they found his name), and the issue was resolved, he recieved a check from his insurance co, and there was no question as to who ran into whom. Its hard to run into someone if you're parked in a ditch, lol.

But it disturbs me that they apparently read accident reports from insurance companies, and then go after people by name, directly, making it up as they go along.

I mean, we live in NH for the lord's sake. This is really a stretch *g*

What is sad, is when some of you assume that the company is going after legitimate claims. pay up, deadbeat is not what this is about. Fraud and intimidation is.

i guess my major concern is that the claims they are going after don't exist in the form they claim they do. The letter reads, basically, you owe this money (not so) and we have been hired to see that it happens. (equally not so). So what I worry about is how far they are willing to push something like this, even though it doesnt exist, and has no basis in fact of any sort.
It wouldnt stand up in a court, obviously, but its the idea of it that might force some people into just paying such a small amount to be rid of these people.

I didn't pay them one dime...but they did report me to the Credit Bureaus. I fought it and finally got it removed..which was a real pain in the *SS. Just write them a dispute letter......pretty easy actually...or dispute directly with the original creditor.

Just write them a dispute letter......pretty easy actually...or dispute directly with the original creditor.
well thats where the waters get murky. there is no creditor. There is no 'dispute' and there is no debt involved, except in their letter. They make it up as they go along, and if they want to diss us to a credit bureau, they really are going to have to do better than this. Even the slightest search will show that we have no credit (we pay cash) and you can't make something bad out of nothing...

Judy, they wouldn't just make it up. They don't just get our informaiton from no where. Mine was a ACH that never went through. I put the wrong account number. Could also be a credit card **********. You know that people can owe a bill when not given credit right?

Doubt they got a name off of an accident report, those ARE NOT public record generally. Very easy to get info legit ways.

Regarding the dispute, take it directly to the credit bureau first. If nothing within 45 days, get the reporting parties info from the cb (by law they must list this) and send your dispute letter.

As mentioned, they are unlikely to sue but will create a headache credit wise. The existance of no credit also means no debt to them = better chance of recovery.

David, we dont do credit cards, never have. they addressed this to my husband's trucking company, which does not exist, and said there was an outstanding bill that he owed them and they were quite upset about it. We don't have a credit card, don't have a credit rating, and we pay cash for everything. Yes they can get info very easily. what they do I suspect is see a name, see a truck was involved in an accident, and decide to call it XXX truckers, and off they go. I have no account number with any credit company, nor does my husband.
um. what credit bureau, djefferis? in what state? these guys are in, what, Ohio? sorry but I rate these guys with the nigerian money laundering schemes.

this is too funny. I just looked at the invoice. There is indeed a trucking company with my husband's initials, but its located 100 miles north of here, lol. They conflated that trucking company with our email addy. I sent them a note telling them, but something tells me they arent going to believe me...

                                                          update

i contacted the company, again, and suggested she check the ip number of our addy; she wrote back, apologizing, said it was a mixup on their part. Somehow or other the computers mixed his name with our address and with any luck at all he is even now being dunned for something he really didn't pay.

some things do end up happily. At least for us, if not for him.

Companies like Jones, Mann and Creed can make rare mistakes and try to collect from an innocent individual but this doesn't take away from the fact that the vast majority of the people they are tracking down are complete scumbags that have charged back or did not honor instant deposit payments to various online casinos, poker sites and sportsbooks. My guess is that most of the people on this thread who are bashing JMC do actually owe money to a gambling site because they charged back after losing.
