You should have absolutely killed it. This bat is clearly deranged, most likely rabid. it was natural selection that brought this bat and not the others to reside inside a clear danger spot. Releasing it only helped to spread disease via guano, as well as any breeding it will certainly participate in. Eliminating obvious defects like this bat is up to its natural predators, of which you should have been the ultimate.

Excellent form WV. I would have closed the door and run screaming with my kid still inside. The bat would have been alarmed by my girlish screaming and then the kid would have woken up. Just the bat and the kid inside the room while I hold the door handle on the other side, sobbing uncontrollably but knowing one thing and one thing only. If I stay on this side, I won't get hurt and if my kid gets bitten....I still won't get hurt.
