I have now officially lost every file on my old hard disk. I went ahead and deleted the partition? i think and reinstalled windows. now my computer is completely blank and i am looking for the right drivers to install because i have no idea. my computer buddy said that i will have to download them from the internet on a separate computer and install them on my laptop.

You already reformatted your hard drive? With something like this you should always wait and try and get advice.

All you had to do was sign on in safe mode and we could have got this virus taken care of. You may still have everything on your d drive if you had a partitioned drive, you can pm if you want any help, I will be glad to give you any advice I can , maybe you still have your D drive info on there. I won't be around much this weekend though, best time to get me will be in the morning. Good luck

It was scaring me because I heard that these things can infect other computers on a network. I had no idea if that was really true but i didnt want to risk it. it really does suck because i'm still struggling trying to download all drivers from dell.

you can get all the drivers from the dell website. go to dell website select your pc model copy all the drivers to your flash drive and install them in your laptop. Make sure you install every driver, especially the network card driver,. If you feel you missed one and your still looking for one you can see which ones your missing by going to......"My computer" from the start menu

right click on "my computer" select " manage" and then a window will pop up. select the device manager link.
The device manager shows all your drivers. anything with a question mark(?) next to it has not been installed.
Return to your flash drive with your drivers and install the necessary missing driver.

Most computers have a resource disk to get back all original drivers and files. If u don't have it try ebay. 3-5$ imo though u were overreacting and had horrible virus protection.. Do urself a favor and use avast for free or somethin else if u wanna pay next time.. Ur protection was nill id be willing to bet or was a worthless one.

Do urself a favor and install ad blocker plus on ur browser.
Hope u get it all back.. We have all done this when we were you and inexperienced too. You can learn till it bites u in ass.

I almost always use firefox and was when i got this virus. I am definitely going to get the anti virus. After about 4 hours of getting my computer's hard drive reformatted i think it's working fairly well. its a shame that i lost everything I had on it though

U didn't have to lose your files if you took the scenic route and worked through it. Try using google chrome. They have a feature that turns the browser page red and warns you there might be an infected file lurking ahead if you continue.

Thank you Findthelock. I actually just downloaded Chrome when the site made me when I downloaded Adobe Flash player so I could get the live scores on cbssports. I may start using that browser now.
