          Hi dtp,

We embedded a video player from a link posted by a fellow poster, precisely so a user would not have to go to a third-party site or leave the SBR network to do any downloading. Streaming video causes no harm, and the vid was watched by everyone without incident. Anybody who can see the banners atop this page already has flash-player installed. I'm not sure what you say you downloaded, but the embedded video was just a stream.

Save your files and either attempt to use the fix I provided or clean install your system.

                in the OP defense

there are some new viruses disguised as "flash player download" links

                mostly on porn sites

The video was playing but there was something that was on top of the stream that said i needed to install a VLC driver whatever that is. So i did it and BAM instant virus. i cant afford to pay that much to have it fixed and i have a lot of files on that computer i need. this really sucks.

$500 to fix a computer with a virus? You can pretty much buy a laptop for 300 bucks

You can probably fix this yourself in less than an hour if you are even somewhat computer competent. This worm is like eight years old. And how the fuk is that guy charging you $500 to fix the computer... most brand new laptops cost that much.

Yeah, it was one of those ads that appears on top of the videos with a fake close button. If you clicked the fake close button, it pointed to an EXE file; I can't remember the name of the file but it was pretending to be VLC Media Player (a legit software application). I accidentally clicked it but wasn't ever in danger as I can't even run EXE files. Lou had nothing to do with the virus.

OP - did you try this: http://www.symantec.com/security_res...081119-5051-99

Yeah I know what you're talking about when you say that thing on top as I downloaded it too. It wasn't a plug in though - it was an actual program that you would've been prompted to install from Lou's link. I didn't have a problem though - well, I hope not at least... I'm still posting on my laptop a few hours later. I embarrassingly don't even have great virus protection on this computer as I usually use my Macbook but it's charging right now. When you clicked the box did it take you to a new page to download iLivid or did you not even get that far? I'm just trying to figure out why you'd get hit and I wouldn't.

When you restart your computer hold f8 to start windows in safe mode. Then once you're in safe mode install www.malwarebytes.com or microsoft security essentialshttp://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/default.aspx . If you can't figure out how to start windows in safe mode then type MSconfig into the search text box and change your reboot options, and after you do that reboot your computer. Once you install one of those programs run a virus scan in safe mode and then delete all of the quarantined items. It should catch that virus for you. That isn't a very serious virus and 500 is way too much to fix a Laptop. You could buy a new Laptop for 500... Right Click on “My Computer” and goto “Properties”. Then goto the “Advanced” tab and under the headline “Startup and Recovery”, press the “Settings” button. Untick the “Automatically Restart” box and press Ok.

sounds like one of the new viruses romaing around

Yeah I definitely can not afford to have someone fix it and I never seem to have any luck with removal programs. I have a ton of stuff on this computer but looks like i'm going to just try the reinstalling windows thing. I found a step by step process which seems easy enough but a ton of damn time to do.

                                                              This......
Any virus can be removed in less than a hour. Its always a smart idea to periodically backup ur data on a external drive so next time this happens u can simply reinstall ur system n be up and running in 30 minutes.

Just do a system restore and go back a couple hours or so and run in safe mode to remove it, that works for me most of the time. GL.
