He is still doing it in his mid 30's with no help from performance enhancement. He was obviously not on it in the 90's either when everyone else was. He stayed the same skinny kid blasting the ball. There is no argument for him not getting into the hall of fame.

I'm a big Braves fan and a big Chipper fan. I think Chipper has been and continues to be an excellent baseball player.

While I think he will be an HOF'er before he's done, I don't think, at this point in his career, that he has hit any of the usual milestones that make someone a first ballot slam dunk HOF'er. He doens't have Schmidt's HR's. He doesn't have Brooksie's Gold Gloves. etc. He did miss one season early in his career with his knee injury. He did move to left field for a year or two. He has spent a fair amount of time on the DL over the course of his career.

I think he will get in...but if his career ended today, I don't think he'd be a lock.

Chipper will be an HOF'er by the time he's done, but right now, he's short in hits (about 800 short of 3000), HR's (he's about 100 short of 500) and RBI (he's about 700 short of 2000).

Hell yes, I think he is only the second switch hitter with a .300 batting average and 300+ homeruns.

If there was any doubt about it before the steroid scandals, there is no doubt now. Chipper was one of the top players in the game during the steroid area, and did it without performance enhancers - at least as far as we know.

Another championship would ice the cake, but as far as I'm concerned he's a lock right now. As are teammates Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddox, and manager Cox.

Aside from Pete Rose, Chipper is the best switch hitter ever.

Let's not forget Eddie Murray. 500 HR's & 3000 hits. Chipper is a ways away from both of those milestones at this point.

Well...the stats aren't "silly". They tell the story of your career and, for the most part, are indicitative of the kind of player you were.

Baseball, more so than all the other sports, is steeped in statistics. There are certain milestones, that if you hit them, you're pretty much guarenteed entrance in the HOF. 500 HR's, 3000 hits, 300 wins, as examples. Not to say you can't get in without those numbers, but it's a lot easier to get in if you've got some of those numbers and it's pretty hard to get in without ANY of those numbers.

I'm sure he'll be a first ballot guy when his career is over.....Regardless, I completely agree with everything that Doc JS has noted in this thread.....Everything.....

I know him personally and bias aside, he's in with the first vote. He's only weakness: women (like me).

                                                        Great day for Chipper today:

ATLANTA (AP) -- Chipper Jones hit a three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a five-run rally that sent the Atlanta Braves over the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7 on Sunday.
