This does seem pretty stupid. I mean why? 35 million? Seriously?

He has great numbers the last two years. Yankees need someone to pitch the 8th since Joba choked.

I'm really disappointed in what Cashman has done this offseason....he better have a few tricks up his sleeve because unless CC can pitch every 3 days it could be a long season for the Yanks. You can tell there's a little desperation when they start talking about pitchers like Bonderman and Duscherer.

Bet they shuffle Joe Bob into the rotation now. That's where he belongs anyway. They can afford to spend whatever they want and they keep him from going somewhere else as a closer.

He'll be the closer in 2012. Rivera is already fading and he isn't getting any younger. See Trevor Hoffman...

Think he's referring to Joba...hope not because he's a trainwreck as a starter. Hopefully he shows up to camp 40 pounds lighter...he needs to slim down bigtime

Unless they trade Joe Bob, I would bank on him being in the rotation if Pettite stays retired.

Rivera is hardly fading. Guy just keeps ticking. He is a fine physical specimen unlike Hoffman. Rivera is good for two more years. HE is one of those guys that no one will ever catch up to and then he will vanish into thin air without anyone figuring him out.

It's insurance in case Rivera gets injured or pitches like his age, which are not incredibly unrealistic possibilities.

Didn't need to give him that much but he's a great player and that signing will benefit you.

Sadly, the twins pay roll has risen steadily from 65 mill to around 100 mill. The game changer last year was Morneau being out for the playoffs (Granted the twins got hot without him, but we needed his gorgeous blue eyes and studly figure in the lineup).

They are getting desperate.. 35 mill is a pretty steep price..
