ESPN just has the best coverage of everything and the best people working men and women
Other networks are just horrific
ESPN gets real qualified analysts

ESPN has put the money into the product. They see that people want big time college football so they throw a bunch of games on and a bunch of cash at it. They see that people are interested in big time college basketball so they throw a bunch of games on and a bunch of cash at it. ESPN did the same thing when Poker was huge and the extreme sports were gaining popularity....it isn't a hard concept but so many networks refuse to follow the model.

I don't like how they have the BCS bowls on cable now but whatever. Is anyone outside of Oklahoma going to watch OU/UConn? How about Utah/Pitt or Louisville/Wake? Those BCS bowls with less than attractive match ups are going to get killed in the ratings game.
They also seem to want to play Sports God sometimes. When the crap hit the fan 3-4 years ago and LSU was 7th in the BCS rankings, they all but started a political campaign to get LSU in the title game. If you play in the Northeast and you're having a good year, chances are ESPN will put you in the MVP discussion.

ESPN isn't getting too big...it's BEEN too big for a long time...
But I don't have a problem with it because I'm old enough to remember a day in time before ESPN when you got ONE college football or basketball game ona Saturday...not games from noon til midnight.

Also ESPN exploded because of various forms of sports wagering whether Fantasy, pools and sports online wagering. A lot of espn is geared for sports bettors.

No, ESPN is not too big. It's just about ideal for sports gamblers. And there is zero risk of them going pay-per-view. Their revenue comes from advertising. And advertising money is based on the size of the audience.
The Superbowl is too big. As in: too many commercials.
