#72Uh, get the stupid Heat comparisons out of here. The rotation is sick, but the fundamental problem last year was lack of offense, and with the loss of Werth, I really don't see how it's gonna improve unless Rollins and Utley can return back to form. But still wow unbelievable!Comment -

#76If he really signed for 5 years, 100M then this is a huge coup for the Phillies and Cliff Lee is a true hero. The chance of that being true is minimal though.
It's probably going to be 7 years, 160Mish. That's a terrible, terrible contract. You don't give anyone a 7 year contract. You especially don't give a 7 year contract to a pitcher. Especially if he is 32 years old! I am proud of the Yankees for finally not falling into this trap. Let the other teams bid against themselves and sign terrible contracts. The Yankees roster is full of "stars" who would not be picked up if they were placed on waivers. That's how disastrous these contracts are.
It's not about the player. It is about the contract. No player is close to being worth what the Phillies paid.Comment -

#77Texas never even had a fukin chance and that's sad to me. The only teams that can bring in these big time FA's are the New York teams, Boston, Philly, and the Chicago teams. No one else stands a fukin chance.

#78Actually I am a Yankee fan and grew up in NJ hating all you people. You would all come to the Jersey shore and were slobs and treated our beaches the way you treat your players... Cant WAIT to see how you guys bash this contract in 3 years when his age starts really setting in!! Wow, snowballs at Santa is nothing compared to the batteries you will all be throwing at this guy or his wife in the standsComment -

#80yeah, you're lucky to have 2 or 3 competitive years out of every 10. Then when those good young players contracts are up, you can count on those east coast teams signing them to ridiculous contracts.

#88I love how all the Yankee fans are comforting themselves now by saying they dodged a bullet by not signing him when Lee screwed both the Yanks and the Rangers over by signing for 5 years worth 100m. Less than they had to offer. Every phillie bat was down last year besides Ruiz. The bats will be back and theres no rotation like this in historyComment -

Like I said earlier, if he did sign for 5 years, 100M then this is a huge coup for the Phillies and Cliff Lee is a true hero. A true hero not just for Phillies fans, but for all baseball fans. Of course, I will believe the 100M part when I see it confirmed. I know "sources have reported" it, but it just seems so unbelievable. If you know about MLB and the MLBPA, then it sounds almost impossible. If true, huge coup for the Phillies.
If they gave him 7 years, slight coup for every team which was tempted to do something dumb but was able to think about the future instead.Comment -

That's gonna be a sick rotation. But Giants kind of solved him, that would be interesting to get a Phillies/Giants NLCS again.Comment -

#101OK, the 5 years 100M turned out to be a lie, which is no surprise.
Now they say it is 5 years for "over" 100M, plus a 6th year that automatically vests if certain goals are met. We'll have to wait for the terms, but that sounds like a very reasonable contract for a guy who is maybe the best pitcher in baseball. If the vesting terms are reasonable (as in, he can't meet them if he gets injured during the first 3-4 years) then it sounds like a good contract for the Phillies.Comment -
