    Lions newspaper staff predictions
Only 1 cover out of 7.

    Mitch Albom

    Patriots 30, Lions 20

The annual tradition. Our turkeys get stuffed.
    Michael Rosenberg

    Patriots 24, Lions 20
New England is on the road, coming off an emotional win over the Colts just four days ago. The Lions should be the more fired-up team. I don't think that's enough for an upset, but it may be enough to keep it close.
    Drew Sharp

    Patriots 34, Lions 21
The Lions haven't merely lost their last six Thanksgiving games; they've been blown out. They'll keep this reasonably close early, but the lack of a running game will keep them from sustaining drives against a  suspect New England defense.

Chris McCosky: Honestly can't see this going any way but bad for the Lions. They have too many banged up players, too many accrued losses and the Patriots arecooking right now. Patriots 35-14
Tim Twentyman: The Patriots aren't going to overlook the Lions with the Jets on tap the following game. The Patriots are looking for home-field advantage in the AFC and won't slip up against a less-talented Lions team. Patriots 34-20

Bob Wojnowski: The Patriots defense actually is vulnerable, and their running game is less than imposing. But Tom Brady is as good as ever, and so is Bill Belichick. A spirited Lions defense and a loud crowd keep it close, for a while. Patriots 34-20
John Niyo: It's the 10th anniversary of Tom Brady's NFL debut in a blowout loss to the Lions on Thanksgiving. A lot has changed since then, and not for the better in Detroit. Patriots 31-17

the lions are actually a pretty decent team most of the time this year
they are 5 plays away from having 5 more wins (i know you can say this about a lot of teams)

computer-wise they are the 14th best team in the nfl
      patriots 25.52
      lions 21.24

so this game should really be patriots -1, but taking into effect the way the patriots are playing right now MAYBE -3 to -4 not 6 1/2 or 7

those lions newspaper guys are overly pessimistic imho

This game brings back memories of the Patriots-Browns game. It will be close. Johnson, Burleson, and Pettigrew will have great games against that secondary.

You have to take into account the QB situations when your running the numbers on this game.

Updated for Bears game. 5 of 6 had Pats covering last week. This week is more of the same with Drew Stanton at the helm, Maurice Morris at RB, and Kyle Vanden Bosch out.

                Mitch Albom

                Bears 30, Lions 10

And I thought the Bears were going to be the EASY team in the division.
                Michael Rosenberg

                Bears 20, Lions 14
The Lions' defensive front should get to Jay Cutler regularly, and the Lions showed in Week 1 they can play with the Bears. The talent gap is not as big as the records indicate. I just have a hard time picking a 2-9 team playing its third-string quarterback to beat an 8-3 team.
                Drew Sharp

                Bears 24, Lions 13
The Drew Stanton era begins -- and probably closes -- with this game. Get ready for the triumphant start of the Zac Robinson era next week when Green Bay comes to town looking for a boost to its playoff chances.

Chris McCosky: Third-string quarterback and third-string running back playing against the stingiest defense in the league — I'm not liking the Lions chances. Add the fact the Bears are chasing a division title, and things could get ugly at Ford Field. Bears 37-10

Tim Twentyman: The Bears are coming off an impressive victory over the Eagles and still have the Packers, Patriots, Vikings and Jets on their schedule. They can't afford to let one slip away, especially against a 2-9 team like the Lions. Bears 27-17

Bob Wojnowski: The Bears are running the ball better, but you can bet ol' Mike Martz will want to throw. Bears QB Jay Cutler has been good, but he takes sacks and will toss interceptions, so the Lions defensive line has a shot. The key? When it's third-and-8, will Lions QB Drew Stanton be able to improvise? Bears 24-17
John Niyo: No guarantee here. The Bears certainly are beatable, but only if the Lions defense forces QB Jay Cutler to start winging it. If not, it's asking too much of a depleted offense. Bears 24-20
