I read these threads of guys agonizing over how one team could lose to another team (re: 49'ers vs Bucs) and on and on and on. It's frustrating to be sure as if there's no rhyme or reason. But here's the thing guys. Very rarely do you see a lousy team wind up in the Super Bowl. Most of the Super Bowls recently have been good games. But here's why you're frustrated:
A) 80% of the players in the NFL are within a click of eachother talent wise. Therefore, you have 10% that are operating on the most elite of levels while the other 10% will be washed out of the league within a year or two. That's why there is so much parity in the NFL.
B) No team is as good as their best game nor as bad as their worst. That perception drives lines and that's why the public swallows favorites and the sharps latch on to dogs.
C) Emotion and revenge games are the single most overrated factor in pro sports. These guys have to do their jobs, live a life and keep themselves healthy. It's a job to them while fans believe it's a religion. Two different realities.
