boys, i've been watching hockey now before 82% of you were even born yet and i saw something yesterday in the Van/chi game that i never seen before. I saw a black guy in the stands.. He was wearing a brown shirt...He was blacker than the ace of spades.. NO JOKE.

boys, i never thought i'd ever see this. You have no idea how much black guys hate hockey. i don't know why. i have a few black friends and each time i call one up and tell them i have an extra ticket, once they find out it's a hockey game, they make up an excuse they can't come. Even if i throw in 2 beers and 3 hot dogs, they still refuse..

Is it because it's too white a game, or are they scared they might get hit by a puck?? Even in montreal where hockey is king, black guys here hate it. they will watch anything except it and they don't care about the habs.

A hard-working cafe owner has been ordered to tear down an extractor fan - because the smell of her frying bacon 'offends' Muslims.

Planning bosses acted against Beverley Akciecek, 49, after being told her next-door neighbour's Muslim friends had felt 'physically sick' due to the 'foul odour'.

Councillors at Stockport Council in Greater Manchester say the smell from the fan is 'unacceptable on the grounds of residential amenity'.

this was not racism. it was the biggest event of the year.. i mean how many times in your life do you see a black guy in the stands of a hockey game?? we might never see it again. this is bigger than a HR record or a 57 game hitting streak..

i would have said the same thing if i saw a purple man, or a green man.. but come to think of it, we had a better shot at seeing a purple man or a green man at a hockey game than a Black Man..

Another reason probably would be not having the chance to play it growing up. I live in the south and youth hockey leagues are few and far between. I have a some friends in Buffalo that play hockey and played youth hockey but it cost a lot of money for gear according to them. If one does not have the money to play they will be more likely to play in sport programs like basketball, baseball and football where gear/equipment cost are far cheaper and most of the gear is provided.

Nicky, I was an insane hockey fan growing up in Chicago in the mid 50's and on. Saw my first Hawks game in the mid 50's at the old Stadium. Even then there was a scattering of blacks seen at almost all games. Of course the west Madison Street location of the Stadium had no white residents for miles around. And there was no NBA. Perhaps 2 important factors.

A young very black local ghetto kid back them, hung around the players every night and was eventually allowed into the clubhouse and became a general gopher/mascot type. Was even allowed to skate with the Hawks in some practices. I met this kid a few times. He was a genuinly nice guy who just loved the game and Willie O'Ree.

Loved the Hawks myself, but had an almost religious adulation of the Bleu, Blanc and Rouge of Les Canadiens. Loved the Habs as well. Saw the Rocket, Pocket Rocket, Dickie Moore, the silky artisty of Jean Beliveau, the thunderous shot of Boom Boom. The blueline brickwall that was Doug Harvey. Later the battles between the sweater knitting King of Goalers Jacques Plante and the upchucking prior to game, Saskatchewan wheat farmer/goaler Glenn Hall have never been duplicated or surpassed.

I was there in 61' for the famous bloody, stick swinging duel between Reggie Fleming and Gilles Tremblay which went on unabated for several minutes while they methodically practiced surgery on each other with wooden sticks. Had stolen rinkside seats for that one which remains a vivid picture in my mind to this day. Bloodiest thing I have ever seen to this day. But I digress.

Went to most all home games. 2nd balcony, unreserved, first come first served seats were 75 cents even for awhile after Hull and Mikita arrived. You could see at least a few black faces up there every night. Not making this up.

I took a black kid to a game in Tampa about 15 years ago. Kid had never seen a game before. He became a phuckin fanatic hockey fan. Taught himself to skate well enough to become a goaler and I heard he was playing in a senior league in Florida at least until 5 years ago when I lost track of him.

They have been there all along Nicky, albeit in small numbers. Maybe not in Montreal. I don't know about Montreal.

The Black man should not endorse a sport that celebrates and mocks our struggle. One needn't be exceptionally sensitive to deduce the representative nature of the black puck. A black puck is rounded up/herded and corralled by Whites with the ultimate goal of imprisonment in a net. that was a great story. i really enjoyed it.. jonesy, i like you and i want to be your pal. we have a lot in common. man, you saw it all. i envy you. you saw the Rocket, Beliveau, Espo, mikita, hull, harvey.. you are one lucky man. i would pay all i got to have been able to see rocket and beliveau live. hockey must've been great back then.. you must have some amazing souvenirs from those great hockey days. the time when everything seemed so easy and life was great.

Pavy my friend, we, in Canada, are a civilized bunch. We, Canadians, do not act weird when we see or walk by a black person whether it is on the street/sidewalk or even in hockey arenas. We love everyone and let anyone enter our great country regardless of race, creed, ethnicity or nationality. Hell, we are even tolerant when it comes to homos here.
