SBR_John, I know you created a thread to enable posters to explain what they would change, add or create if they in fact were CEO for a day of SBR. I could have easily place this thread as a post in your thread but then where would the “Look at me, ma” be in that.
As the first round of World Cup matches come to a close I think it has been made very clear that American posters for the most part either do not like the sport, do not appreciate the skill of the game, or simply are at a down period in their personal wagering year and have little better to do than to bash the soccer fans and the sport they so dearly love.
To the credit of the soccer fans they have not taken the hate and ball busting lying down. They have come back at the bashers and have held firm with their own brand of insults on American sports in kind. Some have taken it in stride and ignored the sneers and jeers while others have been forced to fight fire with fire and take shots at labeling Americans as ignorant and even deserving of world hatred outside our loosely guarded borders.
Granted the World Cup and the recognition of soccer on a worldwide level only happens once every 4 years but it can never be too early to implement counter measures to try and prevent this type of flaming from happening in the future.
I think a proactive approach to this would be to create some additional sub-forums that Americans as well as other nationalities could unite against and see as a bigger misunderstood and more deserving of bashing than soccer.
I’m sure if the members of SBR were to put their heads together we could come up with a list of sports and subsequent forums to coincide with them. Just off the top of my head we could consider………
Water Polo: JJ should be considered for moderator of this forum.
Men’s Gymnastics: Real men can’t and shouldn’t do splits.
Equestrian Riding: This is an elitist sport and could unite barreled in broke ass posters as one.
There are plenty more ideas but that will suffice as an example (plus I am having a creative block at the moment) for now. I think if we had sub-forums such as these it would take a little of the focus off the soccer guys and even enable them to join in with us ignorant, narrow minded, over opinionated Americans and build a more bonded SBR as a whole.
