copied from The Crimson (from 1988)

For those too young to remember.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKtIqXMpHcY

And this (I actually remember Whoopi talking like this from one of her HBO comedy specials at the time).

LAST January, a similar controversy brewed at CBS Sports when commentator "Jimmy the Greek" Snyder spoke to a reporter about Blacks in professional sports. During the interview Snyder said that many a slave owner used to "breed his big Black to his big woman so that they could have a big Black kid." Here was another case of a public figure making an offensive remark that contained some truth--truth that was forgotten in the angry responses that followed.
Snyder's comments met with outrage from the public, and he was fired--but without any consideration of the truth of what he was saying. Many of Snyder's comments that day, particularly his statement that coaches should be white to counterbalance the large number of Black athletes, were offensive and stupid. The evaluation of his comment on the breeding of slaves, however, is not as clearly made.
Whoopi Goldberg, as much a social critic as comedian, has defended Snyder. "Jimmy says...we bred big Black bucks to big Black women and made big Black fast kids. Now did he lie? What did he say that offended people? He told the fuckin' truth...and America and the NAACP and everybody else was pissed...and all the white folks said Jimmy shouldn't've said that."

Why are blacks so over represented on the Olympic sprint and long jump medal podiums? Oh, right, must be black privilege.

Holy crap let me spell it out for some of the handicapped

Of course there isn't black privilege in pro sports, the best get the job, just like there is no white privilege, we are just better at school and working and getting ahead.

so you DO agree that for black people there were institutional barriers for upward mobility and economic progress, not even an entire generation ago?

to answer your question, because they are better athletes. Talent and work ethic in a sport usually gets noticed and can boost somebody into professional level despite their economic background. Just wait until they build more soccer fields in the hood.

The same cannot be said for education and the professional world. You can't flip a switch on racism after hundreds of years of oppression and expect things to be level. A kid with all the brains in the world may never have the opportunity to prosper and do well just because of where he was born. Meanwhile kids with no smarts or work ethic get born into rich families and become president because of their connections.

Probably for the same reason that people don't complain about male privilege in the NFL, MLB, NHL, etc (100% of players are men) despite women making up over 50% of the country. Little bit more of a discrepancy there don't you think?

    Bull shit

If they overtook the sports world once the barrier was lifted because they were the best at it they could do the same in school and business.

Take a step back and see u just said because they are better athletes, but then twisted urself into a pretzel so u could reach in ur own ass* to pull out excuses why white people can't be better at things. If u are losing money for a company or failing tests at a school u are out just like a guard who can't make a 3 pointer. Ever occur to u that childen of successful parents do well because of a thing called genetics? Probably haven't. And why are blacks around the world lagging behind in the same areas, school and business, that African Americans are, even though there aren't white people in those other countries to be privileged over them?

So you're saying that in these two scenarios:
    - white and black kid both grow up in gang infetsed neighborhoods and work jobs to help their families during school

    - white and black kid both born into rich families, go to nice private schools

In both these situations the white kid will go to a nice university and become a business leader and the black kid won't?

This shit is hilarious when you really think about it. When minorities in sports are the best man, or woman for the job then they get it. But, then we have affirmative action, the Rooney rule to make sure that minorities get a chance. Not just going with the best person for the job like it goes in professional sports. You know you support affirmative action as a Liberal, rkelly. Yet, you completely contradicted the left with that post. Basically putting out a conservative view.

    Good stuff.

In your second situation. The black kid would get the job if all things were equal, and it was the two against each other for a job in the business world. The first situation, it depends what they decide to do in life. I guess they are both the same, so the black kid has the edge up if he's equal to his white peer. Affirmative action at its finest. Not to say if they were equal that the black kid doesn't deserve the job. Just he has a leg up when deciding between equal candidates. I know Liberals will never admit that, and blah blah, racism this, racism that.

I feel dumber having responded to that, damn.

Wow speaking of terrible analogies. It isn't just random that they are in crime ridden gang infested areas. If you want to use that scenario the accurate athletics scenario would be the children of two black former athletes and the children of two white former athletes chances of being a pro athlete. Will the black kid become the pro athlete and the white kid won't?

Just to be clear, is it your stance that blacks are over represented in pro sports because they are more talented, but the things whites are over represented in are due to white privilege? Blacks are great at everything, whites only excel if they cheat?

You 're coming up with hypotheticals (two kids in a neighborhood) when I keep showing you the perfect analogy. If blacks can do so well in sports where white people are drafting them, hiring them, and paying them, why can't they do well in school and business where if anything white people are looking for ways to help them succeed?

To try to say blacks are more talented at one thing but white people can't be more talented in another you must have your head buried really deeply in the sand.

    .
Look at that sentence. Read it again. Earlier you admitted there were systemic barriers in place for black people 50-60 years ago. Not even a lifetime ago. They have been oppressed for CENTURIES thus putting them in a more disadvantaged situation. What do you think happens when one group isn't allowed to go to the nice schools or move into the nice neighborhoods while the other is? How do you think wealth gets passed down?

Can't believe I gotta explain this shit

Segregation doesn't make people commit crime or start gangs. Brace yourself and maybe put a helmet on to keep your head from exploding, but black neighborhoods and the black family have gotten worse since all those disadvantageous barriers were lifted. How could things get progressively worse once the "systemic barriers" had been lifted, if in fact they were the cause of these problems? Your story isn't going to make sense because it isn't true, no matter what hypotheticals you conjur up. Once again, the same areas african americans do poorly in, school and economics, are the same areas they struggle with around the world in the absence of white people.

The purpose of this thread is not to attack black people, it's to expose the myth of white privilege. Why is it so hard for you to admit it's a myth in the face of overwhelming evidence?

Maybe becasue they are also more likely to show up for that interview and then show up for the job if they are hired.

I was a manager for a restaurant chain for 15 years and can verify this.

"If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there's no progress. If you pull it all the way out that's not progress. Progress is healing the wound that the blow made. And they haven't even pulled the knife out much less heal the wound. They won't even admit the knife is there."

I don't know about all of that.

Here is just one example. Back in 1996 some white woman brought this black guy in for an interview which I found odd to begin with. While interviewing him she sat at a table next to us. I asked all of the right questions and the guy gave all of the right answers. I loved the guy, he was young(mid 20's), funny, and we both grew up from the same end of town. I told the guy that I was going to hire him. The woman got up and went to the bathroom and the guy grabbed my arm from across the table and said "Look I am just here because they are making me, I don't want the job. She is taking me to 3 places today and apply for work"

Here it was just some type of job placement program and they wasted 30 minutes of my time.

This wasn't the only time that I had run into this.

    But Bosigga come onnnnnnnnnn

There were the same barriers in Pro sports and they now are way over represented in Pro Sports

The white owners who want to win games are the same as the white business owners who want to make money

You can ignore posts like mine and Kermit's outlining the undeniable facts, you can keep ignoring the glaring inconsistency that in places there are no white people blacks still struggle in the same areas, but you are kidding yourself. You are raising your hand in victory as you get choked out

Now don't get me wrong, I know that many black people work and many establishments have an entire staff of nothing but black people working. These types of situations vary from city to city depending on the population of various races.

She is taking me to 3 places today and apply for work"

Here it was just some type of job placement program and they wasted 30 minutes of my time.

This wasn't the only time that I had run into this.
Have had that happen to, black people come in not to apply but wanting me to sign something saying they applied but were turned down for the job
