    The Simpsons Movie
I am a pretty big Simpsons fan so it was necessary for me to go to the first showing on opening day today.

Having now seen it, it was necesssary for me to change my signature to its current state. I'm sure I will not be the last person to use that in the internet world.

Anyway, I thought it was really good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It got off to a very high laughs-per-minute ratio; there was no way to keep up the pace; but it settled in nicely I thought.

I don't know what else to say without getting into spoilers. Everything seemed pretty good to me. They kept it to a sensible length of 87 minutes. Quality-wise, it was definitely a notch above the regular episodes we have been seeing for the last several seasons.

PS - there are little gags that run through the closing credits. You may find yourself sitting there like me wondering when it's okay to go. Well if you want to see/hear every last gag, you have to stay right to the very end and the bit with the squeaky-voiced teen. That one was not particularly great but, as I say, if you are driven to see/hear every last thing, you have to sit right to the end.

One of the few movies I'll probably go see at the theatre this year. Glad to hear someone recommend it.

I might have seen the movie 15 years ago but not when I am an adult.

They are hoping for the movie to hit the $200 million mark but I think it may see $150 million (USA).

Very polarized opinions at imdb.com. That was probably predictable.

Some people call it a travesty (in fact some were calling it a travesty before they had even seen it.) Many love it too.

I guess the people who love it are winning out because it is currently ranked as the #75 film of all time. I enjoyed the movie but that seems a bit carried away to me. I'm not sure how those rankings are arrived at.

They're pretty good rankings at imdb - if you don't think so then have a look at the top 250 films and there isn't a duff one there. However, a lot of movies tend to get overly high ratings when they've just come out (presumably since the fans who really want to see it see it straight away and give it a "10" rating whatever it's like) but they usually settle down over time.

They showed that scene about the spider pig on the commercials.

This will be a movie I wait to it comes out on DVD. I wasn't really big on the Simpsons, so I can wait.

Unless my son wants to go see it, then I will probably take him to see it in the theater.

I'd like to see it but I'll probably wait until I'm able to get a seat at least 3 rows back...

Hopefully the 12 year-old was not overly traumatized by the "doodle" scene. (If she's related to The Prick, I'm guessing that was her biggest laugh.)

OK, saw it last night and I was disappointed although it was pretty entertaining viewing. You could have spliced together 4 random episodes from series 3/4 and it would have been funnier. However, the knob/skateboarding gag was totally inspired and worth the price of the admission alone. And thanks for the tip about the end, Mudcat. That was pretty good.

The fun over at imdb.com continues. If you look at the discussion, you would think there is a pretty even distribution of lovers and haters for this movie. I'm sure some of the negativity is sincere but it is part of the culture over there that, whenever there is something people are very enthusiastic about, there are posters who have to go overboard shooting it down.

In fact The Simpsons Movie has actually moved up on the all-time films list to #43. (Again, I enjoyed it but it's not THAT good.)

Looks like the first weekend gross box office was $71.85 million.
