The NBA draft: Over rated busts and future stars
Of course the top 4 guys are monsters. I dont think there are any busts there.

    Over rated
    Joakim Noah at No. 8

    Great value
    Julian Wright from Kansas
A top 20 pick but not in the top 10. Monster upside

My projected NBA rookie of the Year
    Al Thornton, SF, Florida State
Also not a top 10 pick. He is mature and can do it all. One of the few rookies that can shoot free throws. Might see a team trade up to sneak him out by the 10th pick.

Thats a good list Razz. Horford would be my second choice for ROY. He's a great pick at #3.

You took a shot on a lot of big names as busts, I'll give you credit there. The only name I feel very strongly about is Conley. I think he will be a very good NBA player.

I think Jeff Green's the third best player in the draft.

Busts - Spencer Hawes, Josh McRoberts. I agree with Razz about Conley (thought I was the only one who considered him overrated). He can't shoot at all, doesn't have great size and isn't a great playmaker or ballhandler.

Steals - Acie Law (should be a Top-10 pick), Gabe Pruitt, Derrick Byars, Jared Dudley

ROY - Durant....just because he'll put up the best numbers.

I completely agree with Conley and Hawes being busts. I never understood why Hawes got so much attention in his first year at UW, as I saw him look completely lost out there on several occasions. I'm not so sure Brockman wasn't even the superior freshman of the two at UW.

SBR John you named who I also think will be a major impact player in his first year. Everyone talks about the tandum from Florida, but I really think the breakout player is a guy from the same state who has received virtually no press. I've watched Al Thornton singlehandedly win ACC games for the Noles against some stellar competition, and I think his all-court game makes him an impact player right out of the gate. Al Thornton's my ROY as well...

I think Noah won't even last in the NBA.. He'll be playing in Croatia or Greece in a couple of years cause he isn't good enough.

I don't quite understand the animosity towards Hawes. He's not strong enough, but neither is Durant. Hawes should have stayed at UW another year (though, playing for Romar really isn't the way to improve). But, I think he is the most polished scorer among the big men in the draft. He can use both hands effectively, and has the best shooting touch. I don't know, maybe he won't pan out, but he looks like a decent prospect to me.

                    Good thread.

This really is a tough draft with all the under classmen coming out. Very thin in impact players. A lot of good forwards though.

I guess we have a consensus on Noah. Lets see if he slips. I'd hate to burn the 8th pick of the draft on his talent and athletic ability.

Julian Wright after watching him for a couple years scares the hell out of me if I drafted him. Granted lot of KU guys have done well in the NBA, but I just don't think he has it.

Dead on about Al Thorton taking things into his own hands and beating teams by himself. Great basketball player; if he would have played on a TOP 25 team, you would see him drafted in the top 10.

You can never tell who is going to be good and not good at the next level as most are a hit or miss.

How many NBA scouts are in this thread?? Well that is what I thought, none. It amazes me when guys that have no clue of how to dribble a ball all of a sudden become nba draft experts and great evaluators of talent.

Ah, so fans aren't allowed to either have or share their opinions, huh JJ?

I like Thornton and Horford behind the 'Big 2,' and am really keen on seeing how Acie Law can perform at the next level. Admittedly, the Law sentiment is from my own bias as an Aggie, not because I'm an NBA scout

I'm surprised that everyone was so hard on Durant for the lack of strength. For me, that would be even more of a reason to want him.

To say he can do what he did last year while being that weak is like saying he did it with one hand behind his back. What can he do when he uses two hands, or in this case, puts on 25 pounds of muscle? You assume he has the desire to be dominating and is willing to work but that's the case with all prospects. If so, he can put on 20 lbs of muscle the way Dwight Howard did before his opening NBA game.

I think people have the right to post their opinions. I never claimed to be an NBA scout but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
