#38Originally posted by RangeFinderCounting cards has been obsolete now for some 20 years at least. Deck penetration is the reason. They simply do not deal enough of the deck(s) to make card counting effective. Casino's could care less if you count cards. In fact, knock yourself out, you'll never win long term
If you're cutting 10's and aces, that doesn't work anymore either, they simply don't show the cut card anymore.
Bottom line is casino's are not ever going to give the player an edge. If a player finds one it will eventually be taken away.
Now bet amount management and staying on the program and grinding is on the player...Comment -

#39Originally posted by JIBBBYSingle deck play when you are placed last and at the end of the table gives you an odds on advantage when counting cards.. You can see the amount of face cards being let down as the deck thins.. Odds get better when you see this when you finally get your cards.. Gives you a slight advantage when to hit or stay.. That's just a FACT!!!!
Now bet amount management and staying on the program and grinding is on the player...

#40The flux can kill you in the game. You need a huge bankroll.
Now that, 6/5 bj vs 3/2 is the rule, it makes tougher.
There is also a doc on amazon about a church group.
Holy Rollers: The True Story of Card Counting Christians
I remember on of their guy actually thought the man upstairs knew exactly what the next card would be.
I think their downfall was being too trusting and their "christian" players kept a log of losing money in the casino,
but may have pocketed the money instead.
One of their guys runs a site call black jack apprentice

#41Originally posted by ronaldI went to a school with a guy like you.
He name was Yves... I do have bets pending though with the silly bet points.
Keeping it real - I stay away from the black jack tables these days.. Last table I sat in on I lost 4 grand throwing down black $100 chips all night long and getting free drinks and comped rooms at the Mirage. Next morning I walked to my room and was probably the most drunk in my life.. I was still walking and straight though and didn't even barf.. Must have been that O2 they were pumping into the casino.. Anyways went to the ER in the morning and they hit me with an IV full of fluids because I was deathly dehydrated.. This was 20 years ago though, haven't played since....
True story.. I remember the game though.. Had good nights playing and had ONE REALLY BAD NIGHT and I was done!!!! Never played since..

#47I had a dealer giving me pretty solid info in vegas DT....lol tipping well...but anytime he turned a face card up and check the hole card.....he would be like"doubling down I see" and I'm like I don't know the game-Should I.....YES.....he flips a 5 over and runs out (busto).....all you can ask for IMO lol...Originally posted by DrunkHorseplayerNot at all. I've played thousands of hands of BJ and not once have I seen a dealer expose a hole card; anyone who makes such a claim is probably lying.Comment -

#52Originally posted by RangeFinderNot sure where you play but it depends on their deck penetration after the shuffle. Nowadays dealers are only dealing 3/4 of a single deck and some only 1/2 and I've seen 6 decks only get dealt about 4 decks. With that you cannot win card counting. It is mathematically impossible.
a lot of games are pretty unbeatable (6/5, places that reshuffle if they think you're counting, slicing off 2 decks, etc) but there are tons of casinos around and most will let you beat them up for a while
without a team it's probably more $/hour working at target unless you're willing to be aggressive and don't mind the heatComment -

#55Originally posted by milwaukee mikewell you probably wouldn't sit and play where they cut 2 decks off, i agree there... average around the midwest is about a deck, if you're playing alone that's a lot of hands you can eventually get with a +5 or more true count

If they were not cutting 2 decks+ from 6 card shoe the small CC community would know. Im sure you can still find some small casinos dealing with good penetration. If there is thr table max usually $100 good luck with that.Comment -

i agree it's difficult but everything gets more difficult, and "small communities" can quite often totally ignore certain areas, or just keep their mouths shut about good situations
as i said someone would get paid more per hour working at target, but that doesn't mean you can't make anything... you also somewhat contradict yourself saying rangefinder 100% right, didn't he say nobody has been banned for counting in the last 20 years when you yourself have also been banned?Comment -

#62Certainly that life style is romanticized amongst gamblers, traveling around the country hitting casinos and playing BJ/Poker/etc. Until you actually do it, that's another matter entirely.
Most people, gamblers or not, do not have the drive and passion to put in the prep work it takes to be successful at such things. The payoff in the end is dodging casino security and possibly not getting to cash your chips.
All that being said, the documentary is a good watch. I enjoyed it.
Card counting is alive and well, but it's getting tougher. 6to5, etc, makes things tough.Comment -

#65I’ve got prime so just watched it before Monday night football starts, it was good, crazy when he was at the Indian casino and they can do whatever they want and tell u normal laws don’t apply to them. Also when he was in Louisiana and the casino had a cop pull him over when he was leaving just bcuz he wouldn’t show security his ID so they wanted the cops to do it for them. Crazy the lengths a casino will go to and how rude and unreasonable the employees are, I’ve seen it first hand, anytime a dealer makes a mistake they act like it’s no big deal. I literally had a dealer take $300 in chips from me when I had 20 and dealer had 19, my advice is to always pay very close attention to the game and always add up the cards yourself, dealer once said he had 21 when he had 22 and no one noticed at a full table but me.Comment -

my best story of casino crew actually being nice was when around 5-6 people were playing... guy to my right made an unclear motion, dealer thought he wanted to hit so gave him an 8 which was bust card... pit boss comes over since player said he wanted to stand
pit boss says "ok you're good" then looks at me and says "you want to double down then right?" i'm like wtf... he says well that 8 is coming out next (i had 13). had 200 out there so it was essentially a $400 giftComment
