Always hyping hurricanes and snowstorms up just to get people to watch the channel and buy all the supplies. Then of course it magically gets less strong and veers off course

seems like they always begin coverage with the worst case scenario - only they don't actually say that's what they are doing
if you believed all of their hyped forecasts, you'd hardly go outside.Comment -

#12I was in the Dominican Republic last year when a Hurricane came towards us. I was watching one of the US channels and they had a guy standing by the ocean in a raincoat telling us that the winds were close to 100 mph. His hair was blowing, etc. Well I live within walking distance. I have a wind meter. It was 30 mph gusting to 40mph.Comment -

#14the looters who bought claw hammers and pry bars to remove all the plywood and plastic will have a field day now with easy pickings since all the residents who fell for all this hype and fled will get stuck in monumental traffic jams trying to return to save their belongings. officials will now say you cannot return until the 4" of water recedes in your neighborhood. in the meantime the looters will have already pawned or posted their belongings on e bay or craigs list.Comment -

#32For the most part I agree with the OP, however this storm is huge.
So the winds calm down to a mere 100 MPH, it's crawling at 5 MPH.
It's going to rain hard for 2 days straight in NC, this is inevitable.
Usually you get over hype regarding storms, this one is the real deal.Comment -
