This has to be one of the worst markets for starting pitchers I can remember.

Be prepared for a lot of long games, everyone is adding bullpen arms. Shorten the starters by lengthening the game with trips to the pen. This is the new baseball.

and it looks like a lot of people are gonna steal the rays idea and just have relievers start games

I don't think we will see teams go the route that Tampa did where you see the pen start games, but expect to see managers go to the pen 4+ times a game. My dad always tells me about how 80 years ago it was rare when a guy didn't have a complete game. He even told me the story of some pitcher who pitched both double headers, both complete games lol.

Just wait till September when everyone has an endless supply of relievers.
40 man roster is the dumbest thing in sports.

I think the injury concerns are bogus but the numbers don't lie that the 3rd time though a batting order is bad news for pitchers. Just usually happens to coincide with 90-100 pitches.

archer's agent should be fired and disbarred for letting him sign a 6 year 25 million dollar deal he's still under team control for another 3 more seasons after this year at a very affordable rate
CincinnatiKid beat me to it but till he's 32. Him going to the Padres would make the most sense since the Rays love getting prospects building them up and then trading them before the age of 25/26.

Archer sucks on the road. Needs the big ballpark behind him.
Perfect fit for the NL west.

it actually makes no sense for the rays to trade archer since they covet guys who are cheap and they have team control of, i think the offer would have to be huge for the rays to part with archer

I really hope the padres don't trade for him. They are still 2-3 years away. I don't think now is the time to be trading prospects, maybe a year or 2 down the line. Keep stockpiling the farm system and make your moves when you are on the cusp.

Isn't this what Tampa Bay does? I'm pretty sure they bought out a few of Longoria's controlled years, too.
Is he regressing? His last three years his ERA is all north of 4. Maybe he needs a new environment, who knows.

i live in tampa bay area and i can't root for the rays, stadium sucks owners are cheap they want to win with the lowest payroll possible so they can make money of the luxury tax teams like the yanks redsox
