In the dark humor vein, there are a few directions to go with that. It seems almost like an episode of a cartoon. But when I stop and think about that really happening in real life, it gives me a sick does-the-human-race-even-deserve-to-survive? feeling.

Man shoots friend to death over $20 bet.

Lexington, S.C.- A man killed his friend with a high powered rifle in a dispute over a $20 bet on the South Carolina-Clemson game, authorites said. James Walter Quick, 42 was charged with murder in the shooting of Richard Allen Johnson,43. Authorities said Quick bet on South Carolina, which won 31-28, and Johnson on Clemson. They drank beer all afternoon and argued about the bet after the game

As someone who was born in South Carolina and has lived most of my life in South Carolina and a dyed-in-the-wool Gamecock, I have several observations:

1. We take our football VERY seriously here in the Palmetto state. When we say, "college football is not a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that"...WE MEAN IT !!!!

2. Alcohol and high powered rifles are seldom a good mix.

3. Just like a Clemson Tiger fan to welch on a bet...

Seriously, this is just a tragedy and certainly doesn't cast our state in the best light (again)...
