Totally agree. Good thread Kraken.SBR used to be different, many guys from the past still here and can vouch. We used to have S...B...R... points and not betpoints. Mods and admin used to interact with regular joes throughout the day, every day. It was routine to have John, Lou, Bill, J7 and Shari bickering amongst the rest of us. SBRJOHN used to have a nccaf special line weekly and he never lost. We had hedge funds, sportsbook cash, the best of all was the Southwest airlines $1000 gift card
, the store was loaded.
Im not 100% sure what the catalyst for change was but change we did. Many things happened around the same time, maybe it was one of them or all of them, Im not sure.
John began to make this place more marketable to potwntial buyers and I cant help but think that played a role in this place be oming a lot more vanilla. BetIslands happened around that time and the mods/admin caught flaq and even some soft death threats. Personally I think BI played as big a role as anything else especially in regards to how mods interacted with posters. Lastly, sbr went through a few lawsuits and Im sure some changes came about from those
Needless to say, sbr isnt what it used to be, it is nowhere near as good. SBR is still a good forum, but many of the opportunities that used to be available aren't any longer.
And it's too bad, this was a unique place

Forum has changed forever, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad though.
Only bad period was early 2013 when all the staff and JJ disappeared.

Was an Rx poster back in the day and covers too. Both places are now graveyards. I'm surprised SBR is this busy and the contests, odds and videos are darn good. My only complaint is the casino is totally rigged. I verify that far too often.Comment -
SBR better when posters took posting seriously
Now all the guys that been around for awhile are trying to get jobs at SBR and they're not focused on the posting
BetIslands whole issue was weird and showed lack of transparency overall -- more people started to distrust SBR in general
Then you have a new poster or posters taking over JJ Gold's name. Which is a shame. It's easy to tell it isn't him anymore.
Also the good days of me and lakerman and twizzle and paco all posting plays in 1 thread -- those were good times

Joking around and debates about sports and plays have turned into clowns like Russian Rocket trolling everyone, using 50 emoticons in every post. Shit just hurts my eyes at this point.

Back in the day there were way more scammers and cheats too. Don't miss that although someone getting rolled for 75k is sometimes high comedy assuming you are not the mark. I think that the DOJ seizing sites and stepping up UIGEA enforcement has also caused operators like SBR to take pause. They have to be very careful these days.
For me I like the site better these days. Better contests, better content, and better tools. also lots of grab ass and e battles. I do miss a lot of the insight that guys like Ganch and Justin provided, but the beat goes on. A lot of the old posts are still relevant and there are still sharp guys posting here.Comment -

Agreed. It was awesome when I first signed up. I lost a lot of money because it fueled my addiciton, but it was fun. Now, it's just different. We lost many a great posters, and people don't post plays with insight anymore. Oh well, shit happens.Comment -

I didn't even know about SBR until 2014. It has never been a necessary piece of my arsenal. When I first visited the site it was after making plays; I would then browse the forum, hoping to get a feel for what was being played. I have to admit, I was often happy to see it when I was fading the board.
I came for the fades, and stayed for some of the entertainment. I hope to pay attention to those contests more and maybe play a little more poker this year. All points will likely go to charity.

Stealthy gets it, I am just glad that I wasn't around for the bad period. I took a break for about 2 years when all that shit happened. When I got back I was sad to see some of the old crew that brought instant entertainment like Landers and venditto weren't around. But like you said, it is still plenty entertaining. People come and go but, like JJ always says, only the strong can survive at SBR
