You guys never answered any of my points.

Why is there a huge correlation between the increased popularity of fantasy and the NFL revenue over last decade?

Why has baseball diminished as the top watchable sport in the US?

They're even doing fantasy segments on ESPN now.

Without fantasy NFL would not be the number 1 sport in America -- and it never was -- until fantasy came into the picture....

Anyone like silver that wants to legalize gambling is simply looking out for their business revenue.

To say Goddell has done all this for NFL is simply incorrect. Invention of fantasy football fukkin took the NFL to a new height.
Fantasy did but not this fantasy. This has just made it a outright gusher. Homemade fantasy hugely boosted the NFL but not as much as the internet and online gambling.

They aren't paying millions to NCAA to play games on a Thurs in front of a half empty stadium for fantasy. The real money and eyes are still with illegal online gambling. There will still be plenty of money to be made with illegal fantasy gambling. This stuff is here to stay.

“We are a US-based skill games company, and all of our contests are operated 100% legally under United States and Canadian law,” the DraftKings site explains. “The US Government and 45 of the 50 states consider fantasy sports a game of skill.”

And sports betting is not skill? Really?

That isn't correct, actually backwards. Fantasy sports has done FAR more for NFL than gambling ever will. It has to do with human psychology and nothing else. There will always be more people playing fantasy sports than betting spreads. Online fantasy gave a huge BOOST to NFL and if it doesn't get shutdown, it's growth will be magnitudes greater than homemade contest. It is already growing at a much faster pace but that is obvious when you're dealing with the internet vs old channels.

Well Said, there will always be places to play just like online sportsbooks.

No, fantasy is just taking it to a another level. Online gambling and fantasy made the NFL a juggernaut as well as NCAA. 75% of the growth of the NFL was due to online gambling and homemade fantasy. Take that away and the NFL would return to what it was in the mid 1970s. Nobody would watch the stuff if they didn't either have a bet on the game or need to know how many yards Sam Bradford was going to get in their fantasy league. This new fantasy has boosted that by adding more 25 year olds to the pool but it is still too new to account for the incredible growth of NFL and NCAA. It is just adding to it.

The NFL's growth largely had nothing to do with gambling. You do realize the vast majority of people do not gamble nor will they ever? Those are the same people who play fantasy sports tho. The recent growth in NFL is directly attributed mostly to online fantasy. The growth started with homemade fantasy which has been dwarfed by online fantasy.

There has been some natural growth. People like to go to games as an event a lot more than they used to and watch too. Even women like to go to games and watch. But you vastly underestimate how much gambling and homemade fantasy drives things. All you have to do is watch a Thurs game or bowl game to see the power of gambling. It is hugely magnified with NFL.

I tried homemade fantasy one year and sat watching to see how many yards Wade Wilson was going to get and that was enough to make me stop.

It is a combination of all factors. But the NFL and NCAA really took off with online gambling and homemade pools such as March Madness bracket stuff.

                      Brooks is dead on

Fantasy has zero impact on NFL

It could be gone tomorrow and nobody would care

Sportsbetting is the core figure if any

It's a bit of chicken and egg.

If you have New Mexico and San Diego State playing which I watched with no more than 500 people in the stands, you have to have somebody like me with a big bet on San Diego State to have the game televised. There will be people that will watch because it is on and they like college football. But the reason the game is on is because I have money on it and am going to watch. Then a lot of other people will watch too I am damn sure was not watching a New Mexico game on Thurs without the bet and nobody in Albuquerque was either because they didn't show. There is no natural market for that game.

Monday Night Football was CANCELLED by ABC and put on ESPN because there wasn't enough market for it. Bang. Along comes the internet and easy gambling. They are having record numbers and now it is huge. Now fantasy is along for the ride.

Without the gambling and the fantasy, the games aren't boosted and aren't televised. You've got to have that core of money driving things. Once people get hooked into the stuff, they'll watch almost anything. But nobody can watch any of it unless somebody is going to bet or gamble on it. Take it away and they don't give a damn about any of it. It's a snowball effect.

NFL is the only corporation on the planet that owns a day of the week.

Fantasy and Daily fantasy did not save the NFL, but it's thriving more than ever because of it.

Funny how they are going after DK and FD, but leaving the smaller guys alone, like DraftDay for instance.
Also funny how CBS sports and Yahoo Sports etc are teflon, business as usual regarding fantasy over there.

Clearly there is an agenda here.

People were gambling on NFL (and NCAA) long before fantasy was thought of. For every dollar bet "legally" there's thousands more bet "illegally". DTV launched Sunday Ticket in 1994; we were using newspaper boxscores for fantasy then. Fantasy has definitely played a role, but gambling is why the newspapers posted odds, injury reports, game day weather, etc. Jimmy the Greek, et. al., wasn't put on the air because of fantasy players. As far as the NFL is concerned, gambling is the cake, fantasy the icing.

NOT correct. MNF was not "cancelled" by ABC. Disney owns ABC and ESPN. ESPN paid twice as much as ABC was paying for the rights. It made more financial sense for ESPN to air it since they pull in a ton of cable revenue.

                                              Ain't that the truth.
Most that are claiming rigged "insider trading" are the same ones that ignore the rigged NBA game, you know, the one where the point guard throws the ball away to keep the game inside 7.5 points, or the game the ref is on the take and calls four phantom away from the ball touch fouls in the second half.

You don't like daily fantasy sports, here's a novel idea, don't play.

Pennsylvania and Illinios are next. Louisiana talking about it. Once Florida falls the dominos will follow. Once those 4 are out the player pool will begin to noticably shrink. Will effect the GPP's

dfs will still be around, but as we know it, it's over.

But they wanted to put on Three Broke Girls or Mike & Molly or some such trailer trash instead because the audience was bigger or younger. Can't change history.

I disagree. The main reason behind the MASSIVE marketing campaign is legalized sports betting. FD & DK spent millions on advertising and promotions in order to gain new customer accounts. They were willing to pay $25 a head easily. The strategy being that they already have the infrastructure ready, building up their clientele with DFS, and as soon as sports betting is legalized they will swiftly modify their apps/sites to become the largest sports books in the world.
