Sorry war was not a meaningful stat at that time.

    Gehrig was better than Williams.

I would have loved to see what Bo Jackson would have accomplished if not for that freak injury.

link below says Williams had a 123.1 career WAR...but still head of Gehrig. Either way, Ruth is #1 on the list and should be number 1 on this list.

Mickey Mantle would've been the best player if he a) stayed healthy and b) didn't booze so much.

I would have been the greatest of all time if I was 6" taller and could hit the curve ball better, to be serious you might be correct, most people don't realize how quick he was, was one of the quickest ever to go first to third. The only man closest to Mantle in the game now is Trout, and Trout is not Mantle

He tore his knee up very early on and was never quite the same. And yet, he still put up monster numbers.

Browns answer " Can`t remember my best time, but I NEVER lost a race"

As far as guys picking Wilt, the only way I would consider taking him to start my all-time team would be if his entire mental and emotional being was morphed into a Russell, MJ, Bird or Magic make-up.

Wilt was the first really big center, he had a huge advantage

I would take Russell over Wilt. Russell was the ultimate winner. Wilt was about statistics.

                              Yep.
Wilt had the stats, Russell has the rings.

when you talk about baseball and Babe Ruth

its important to remember he wasn't just a hitter
