No opie. This isn't about stats. Lemieux was better than wayne.

Listen.
Gretzky was awesome. He had nowhere near as much talent as Mario. Mario was dominant. If Mario played in Waynes early years with the players wayne played with he might have gotten 240 points.

Maurice Richard in hockey- he or Gretzky? Cobb dead ball MLB; DiMaggio or Williams segregated; Aaron post segregation in MLB (can't give it to a first baseman come on); LT in NFL- no debate sorry; Jordan for now, James by the end thou in NBA.

babe ruth played with no black or international players. mlb was a beer league back then compared to today. no doubt he was good, but he's more about the lore than anything else.

understood... it's hard to debate players from different decades. You have steroids and short fences this year. The old polo ground's fences went 480ft.

Baseball will suprise some, Mariano Rivera..career post season era under 1.00..that is unreal how awesome that is. He also maintained this over a long post season. Hockey Wayne over MArio, 4 cups to 2 cups.

Cael Sanderson has to be the greatest athlete ever
159-0
4 NCAA finals & 4 wins
gold medalist
Can't argue perfection, very rare feat especially considering he had no teammates to pick him up on a off day.

one thing about Gretzky, very very unselfish..he would give up an empty net goal and pass it to kurri for a goal. He also played many more games then Mario and almost twixe as many playoff games and maintained 1.8 pts per game in playoffs. Top 3 NHL...Wayne, Mario, Orr.

the truth is if barry bonds hadn't of juiced, he probably would have gone down as the greatest. he was already incredible, had he just played out his career like a human i think he would have still been great.
i'll go with laker on lemieux, easy for us ugly americans to think we know anything about hockey.
football is tough because the positions are so different, no one really tries to call that, but it's hard to argue against joe montana or jerry rice there. also if you talk to old heads, they'll tell you jim brown was the best they ever saw.
basketball is obviously jordan.

If I was drafting an NFL team and could pick any player from history, my #1 would be a fella by the name of Lawrence Taylor.
Then I'd hire someone to follow him around and make sure he didn't get his hands on any cocaine.

Bull. If anyone was a byproduct of being surrounded by great players, it was Rice since he had 2 HOF QB's throwing to him his entire time in SF.
LT *was* the great player that made everyone else on that team look better than they really were. There was only one other Hall of Fame player on those Giants teams, and that was Harry Carson who took almost 20 years to get inducted (so he wasn't exactly a 1st ballot HOFer).
Besides, Rice is a known cheater.
