#37Belichek's winning percentage has actually gone up since Spygate (wins over 75% of his games). Granted he hasn't won any Super Bowls, but that's not the easiest thing in the world to accomplish. No team in the last 10 years has repeated. The Patriots lost twice to Eli since then, both times by "acts of God" (see Tyree catch). It's lazy to include him on the list in this thread. The guy has won a ridiculous amount of football games with questionable talent/waiver wire starters/practice squad nobodies. He is without question a phenomenal football coach, a certain hall-of-famer, and probably the greatest of all time. There is not one person in the NFL world who would use the word overrated when describing Bill B.Comment -

#39At first I want to say Phil jackson. But he won 9 championships with 2 two teams in 12 years. That is pretty crazy.
Out of the 20 years coaching, he went to the finals 13 times, winning 11 of them. Yes he did have great players, but coaching at the professional level isn't like high school or even college. It has more about dealing with people and working together.Comment -

#40first of all it was it was tex winter (i think) offense. How did he do when jordan was suspended? Those 2 championships and that 3rd he got when jordan came back were great. What? He didn't win those! What did I miss.Pippen and jordan are rated top 50 all time. Shaq and kobe are rated top 50 all time. Kobe and gasol top 50. He won't do shit since tex is dead and he doesn't have 2 hof on roster! J.J. could of won 11 rings with the rosters he had.
Doug Collins had MJ and Pippen too. Del Harris had Kobe, Shaq, DFish and Rodman. That's a former Coach of the Year and a guy who still gets hired to coach today. Neither one of them won anything with those teams. So there goes that argument.
Jackson went to teams that already had talent but couldn't win championships and turned them into dynasties. Under some people's definition, unless you purposely go to a horrible team and make them legendary, you're "overrated". So if Steve Kerr turns Golden State into a dynasty someday, it's not that impressive since he didn't choose to try and do it with the Orlando Magic? Got it.
I love how people make up these alternate scenarios and act like they know what the outcome would be. You have no idea what would have happened if Phil would have coached elsewhere. You can only avoid facts for so long.Comment -

There is a reason people use that analogy that "Peyton Manning is the NFL's version of the Atlanta Braves".Comment -

#63Erik Spoelstra would seem like a good candidate, but I don't think he receives enough credit to be
considered one of the most overrated coaches. For example, since Bron ditched South Beach, he's
a nobody. If people were propping him up and absolutely shocked that the team is not what it once
was, then I'd agree.
Maybe Bobby Cox. MLB managers are a bit overrated for the most part. How many
critical decisions do they make? A basketball coach can have such a huge effect on the game at
any one point, whereas a baseball manager's impact is minimal compared to coaches in other sports.Comment -
