This is the week that the 3rd circuit rules on PAPSA/New Jersey

Going to be some interesting times.

The New Jersey appeal was an expedited appeal, and most of the bloggers/gambling watchdog sites think the ruling will come down this week.

I would love to see how quickly the Jersey casinos have books up and running if they get a favorable decision. I'm guessing 24 hours, I would think most of their leg work is already done-----

I'm kidding about the 24 hours part, but it would be fast, especially with the NFL season looming.

And if Jersey wins-- DUCK.

With States being broke-- you'll see books in 10 other states before the Super Bowl.

JJ-- if the Insurance industry couldn't beat Obamacare, the NCAA/NFL isn't going to beat NJ.

If this makes it to the Supreme Court-- and it will either way---- Jersey's going to win.

Vegas would be in serious trouble if this happens. CA would be offering sports at racetracks, cardrooms, and Indian casinos which are pretty much on every corner. I'd be spending a lot more time in Inglewood, that's for sure.

Very interesting situation, as when I read over this stuff, I find arguments against to be very very weak.

If all things were equal, I find it next to impossible to rule any other way than allowing it in NJ. Since things aren't equal, and the political landscape is the way it is, you have to believe a good outcome is unlikely.

In my opinion, it should be a state choice with next to zero federal interference. That way, there is a very good chance many states still wont allow it, but that's the beauty of it. Choice is up to the state.

Here is what changed.

6 weeks ago, the Supreme Court overturned the Voting Rights Act, in a case called Shelby County v. Holder.

How does that impact this New Jersey betting case?

Well, it set a precedent for "Equal Sovereignty". The NFL and NCAA were able to use the argument that "ES" only applied to new states entering America (if we added a 51st and 52nd state), but the Supreme Court ruled that is NOT the case, and that "ES" should be applied to all states currently in our union.

In other words, the ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court is in direct contrast to the lower District Court's ruling on Equal Sovereignty.

The only way New Jersey loses is if the 3rd Circuit rules that the Supreme Court is wrong ().
