Made the NCAA take off the search function. Dude has been flying that flag for a long time.
Still, you can't pay the kids for jersey sales - and not adopt a semi-amateur league. Big time markets with big time boosters will separate themselves even more.

Why not let the players make the money from the merchandise but not let him have it until they graduate?

Who is going to pay for the cost of manufacturing and marketing the jerseys?

There are a bunch of issues. This literally opens up a HUGE can of worms. One that I am conflicted on whether it's worth opening.
My main beef with the idea, is you will have kids choose schools based on how many jerseys that school is projecting to sell. Booster can guarantee that figure be met.
The money would have to be given after college, setup in a trust, that much is certain.
But, at that point - you have completely changed from the amateur dynamic that is barely holding on.
I keep hearing people much more knowledgeable than me, say the only reasonable way to approach this topic is to use the Olympic model.

It is and always will be about the bottom line.
Did you see that BYU announced they will not use names on back of jerseys?
14 hours later they say it will only be for 1 game.
always gunna be a loophole.

Who pays for the cost of the manufacturing and marketing of jerseys when they have to pay a portion to the nflpa?
Anyway the ncaa could look like gold if instead of giving it to players they put it into scholarships for disadvantaged youth.

The point was why will the NCAA promote selling of jerseys so that the player can get the profits. Think of it from a business point of view. Lets say it costs $30 per jersey to produce and market the jersey. And the jersey sells for $50. Do you want the $20 to go the player's trust fund? Then why will the NCAA promote such a business?

Just like any other business of the like, player gets a percentage, schools and NCAA still rake in everything else.

Then why would the NCAA give the players a good percentage deal? What will the player do if they offer him 2% of the sales. Quit school?

It doesn't really matter, the NCAA won't be controlling any schools people actually care about eventually. Problem then will be all the smaller schools(who won't be invited to the new league or can't afford to buy-in) and their non-football sports won't be getting millions of dollars anymore for sucking.

there will always be some sort of governing body...the schools acting as some sort of self governing consortium would never work

yes it would, that is why they are already planning on it. It is literally a matter of years before NCAA and their silly rules will be irrelevant.

Jay Bilas is a piece of sh*t. Everytime he speaks my ears bleed. He makes a moderate point here though.
