#73Originally posted by kdmfoxIt is a bit confusing but I'm pretty sure that the $200 is a cash bonus and not a freeplay but subject to rollover before withdrawal.
With $10,300 in weekly "prizes" (500x1 and 200x49) plus 5,000 in deposits to claim the "prizes" a rollover of 45,900 is needed before anyone sees a dime ... I'd be surprised if the 5,000 in weekly deposits translates into a 1,000 in withdrawals for the contest winners.
Bottom line is, a contest prize (bonus) is more of a great "deal" for a 100 deposit and not a true prize for beating the Prick ... If you beat the Prick 17 straight weeks, you get 17 "deals" on $100 deposits with 15,300 in rollover requirements ... Could it be that the real winners are those that the Prick beats?
Well anyway, there is the season ending prizes, so count me in.
are you serious? how can a 200% bonus with a 3x rollover be a bad deal for the player? its amazing how some people thinkComment -

#75Originally posted by kdmfoxYes, a 200% bonus is a great deal on a $100 deposit ... I think you are missing the point here ... This is supposed to be a "prize" for beating the Prick, not great deal time.Comment -

#76Yes, I do gamble and do my fair share ... I happen to be a decent customer at CRIS and never take a bonus which is my choice as I don't care to jump through rollover hoops but fully understand why others do ... I find it a bit excessive to deposit an additional $100 on top of any existing balance every time the Prick is beaten which is quite often given his history ... On the surface it looks like CRIS is putting up a huge prize pool but in reality most of the winners will leave their "prize" with them plus the $100 they deposited to get it ... I also fully understand why these contests are put on by the books, which is to attract new business ... Opening an account and maintaining a minimum balance would seem sufficient for a player to experience what a book has to offer.
We can agree to disagree ... Getting a great deal on a deposit may be a prize to you but it's not to me ... It's a clever way to attract business where the bulk of the winners will be leaving $$$ with them, not them leaving it with you ... To that I tip my cap to them.
As for the contest itself, I will participate as I enjoy the competition which isn't against the Prick but the other contestants ... As for the weekly prizes, I'll cross that bridge if and when I get there, if of course that's ok with you.Comment -

#77Yes fox, you are without a doubt quite right that there are certain "strings" attached to the weekly prizes. 200% or 500% deposit bonuses obviously have value lower than face. I certainly do see how this could be a bit disconcerting on principle.
Nevertheless, the value of the weekly prizes certainly are extremely positive -- assuming a cash deposit bonus with 3x roll, a -110 line set, and no scalping opportunities, we're talking between $159.09 and $174.04 for the $200 prize and between $418.18 and $446.07 for the $500 prize. This is especially true for a player who'd be placing bets anyway.
Obviously this is a marketing opportunity for CRIS. They want players to start using their book. But this doesn't change the fact that the "deal" they're offering has huge expected value for the player. Perhaps if the prizes were described differently you'd feel more comfortable. Let's say: "A $500 CRIS deposit bonus with a cash equivalent value of at least $418, and a $200 CRIS deposit bonus with a cash equivalent value of at least $159."
I'm totally with you on this, fox. I'm always exceptionally wary of indentures masquerading as sportsbook or casino largesse. But we're not talking a 10% bonus with 6x rollover or a No-Juice pseudo-bailout. We're talking bonuses at way above market price the fine print of which lowers their value only slightly.Comment -

#78Hey ganch ... I suppose you can look at this from different angles ... When you win a contest you like to put something in your pocket ... The perception here is that you are initially winning something but the reality is you are putting something in their pocket with a good chance of never seeing the "prize" you won (earned) ... If CRIS was going to be shelling out a sizeable amount of $, they wouldn't be trotting out the Prick to put up against us ... He's good for a laugh or two with his rhetoric but that's about it ... From their side, he's actually good for business ... He loses, we deposit and use their service ... He wins and we don't deposit and use their service.
I'm already a customer and they have a fine book deserving of their rating.Comment -

#79I will be taking part in the contest. Have no problem depositing $100 to get $200. I will have no problem meeting rollover requirements and money is about as safe as offshore money can be. I can see your point fox, but I think it will be beneficial for quite a few posters.Comment -

#81kmdfox,
I see what you are saying and have respect for you as poster...
it's like this for me...I got $300 from beating the prick last year (started half way through the season)...and yeah, I did have to roll it over less than I will have to this year if I'm able to beat him (cough, cough), and rolling it over can be tiring as I mainly play at books without bonuses and thus no rollover requirements...but I look at it this way...How much would I have gotten if SBR and Cris didn't have beat the prick?...zero...
and with betjamaica hoops contest and the $500 I have to rollover 6 times...how much would I have gotten if SBR didn't have the contest?...zero...
yes, both Cris and SBR are less at risk this year than they were last year with the Beat the Prick contest, but I'm still very happy they are having it...Comment -

#82i agree its a great contest
on the downside I was going to deposit 500-1k in cris but this contest has discouraged me from doing so, with the 100 deposit rule on winning i may as well wait and use other books.......just seems ironic as the contest is geared to get business has driven me away.........but as i said i think its a great valueComment -

As far as Beat The Prick goes, I opened an account with them for the contest last year, won a few times, and remained a customer with them ... Other contests I opened an account and deposited $50 or $100 whatevever their requirement was and rode it out to its conclusion and left them with the initial deposit and no more.
This contest is great marketing as they require you to deposit every time you win and you have to rollover that deposit plus whatever you may have won ... There is a potential of winning 17 times and making 17 deposits and still ending up with zero, costing the contestant 1,700 and the sponsor zero ... In fact the sponsor is the winner ... The nature of the game is that sponsors in the long run probably actually pay out very little after rollover ... For us, we do get the play.
On another note ... Am I to assume that the number of posts are the determining factor in who wins the weekly $500 top prize? .. With 4 selections per week there will certainly be a log jam at the top every week .. I can't ever see a scenario where 1 person will outright win ... If this is the case, the great bulk of contestants will never have a shot at the top weekly prize ... Unfortunately I don't have a better suggestion to make it more equitable to those that have made 500 posts vs those that have made 1,500 plus.
Well, enough of this ... Let's rock.Comment -

#84kmdfox,
good post...
just to let you know...I bet a bunch of bowl games and college hoops and eventually got to withdraw my money sometime in February...but, you're right, meeting the rollover is definitely to the advantage of Cris...
regarding the contest tiebreaker...I think it's good for SBR to do it this way, because it encourages posters to stay on the forum on a yearly basis, rather than just during football season (when Beat the Prick is going on)...Comment -

#88crap, sorry dude...always had it in my head that it was spelled that way...my bad...
I just think this is SBR's way of discouraging ghost posters that appear on many sites for brief periods of time...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this might be the best contest out there on the net right now (and I think SBR knows this), which is why they'd rather hand the bonus money continually to the SBR faithful, vs. a newbie that like a gold diggin' wife may just be using them...Comment -

I still wear my Tommy Bahama shirt with pride from being one of the winners last year! I'll be wearing it again Week 3 of NFL at some sportsbook around Vegas hoping not to get any rum and coke stains on it.
But last year was last year...would two yearly wins in a row over Prick constitute a dynasty?!?!Comment -
