i read ganchrows thread but i am still confused . according to the line i set -5000 there is a 1.96 % probability of a player being carried out on a stretcher . so there is a 98.04% probablity of a player not being carried out on a stretcher. so how do i convert this 98.04 % probablity into a line. suicidekings help ? i m pretty sure the +3500 is wrong.

Favourites: -(Fave Odds)/(100 - Fave Odds) = -(-5000)/(100-[-5000]) = 5000/5100 = 98.04%
Dogs: (100)/(100 + Dog Odds) = 100/(100+[+3500]) = 100/3600 = 2.78%

It adds up to more than 100% because of the juice being paid on top of the no-vig price. The sum of the two is called the overround. You then divide percentage by the overround to get the implied probability of each outcome.

Fave: 98.04/(98.04+2.78) = 97.24%
Dog: 2.78/(98.04+2.78) = 2.76%

As long as the dog odds are smaller than the fave, your answer will be ok, but for a book to offer a wager, it needs to be profitable. You calculate the bookies profit on the wager assuming an ideal balance on the action (dependent on the line, not just 50/50), called the theoretical hold, as:

Theoretical Hold = 1 - 1/Overround = 1 - 1/1.0082 = 0.81% profit of the total volume.

Books actually make WAY more money on 50/50 propositions. For the common 2-outcome prop with -115 lines, the books are making a profit of about 6.5% of the total volume on average.
