One of his big studies this offseason involved the number of plays defenders are on the field. After a season in which the Packers finished 32nd on defense, McCarthy felt his players were too tired when the playoffs began. The Packers have seven defenders who played more than 880 plays last year. The Packers lost their first playoff game despite being a No. 1 seed with a 15-1 record. The 49ers had an incredible nine defenders on the field for 982 plays, most in recent memory. That doesn't include Justin Smith, who was on pace to be in the 980-plus range before his injury. The 49ers basically use only 13 players on defense in most games. As a comparison, the Falcons had only three defenders with more than 890 plays. The Redskins had six. The Packers had only two.

SF's D is better. But it boils down to Rodgers vs. Kaepernick , the most important position in the game. This is the biggest disparity in QBs out of the 4 games. Packers!!

Completely agree with you. I really like the Niners here. I still don't think this Packer team is close to what they were a couple years ago when they won the SB. The only thing they do exceptionally well is throw the ball. They can't even kick FG's right. Aaron Rodgers covers up a lot of their weaknesses, but the Niners should expose them, especially at Candlestick.

Yep, GB's o-line is crippled compared to that team. Rodgers is #1 in sacks this year, he was #13 in sacks when they won a couple years ago. But, it might be worth it to wait until game day to see how Justin Smith feels.

When exactly did the 49ers peak, in your estimation? I'm just curious. They seem to have been solid all year.

I'm assuming the game they beat the bears or saints( those non playoff teams). Packers of course had a difficult schedule. I man they did beat the playoff texans, colts and vikes. Of course they had no other easy games on the schedule. Oh wait they beat the rams/cardinals/lions(2)bears(2)titans/jags etc.

Rodgers is coming home, with a fairly large chip on his shoulder from being bypassed in the draft by his home town team. Perhaps the 49ers will knock that chip off, or perhaps will see a few rounds of discount double-checks. Frankly I think the over is the play here.

Woodson is a safety. He's not gonna waste his time guarding randy moss 1 on 1 for the whole game. maybe a couple plays. woodson will be stacking the box preventing gore from running and helping out on vernon davis mostly i would think.

if gb can protect rodgers there's no chance sf can win. rodgers is the most accurate qb in the nfl. if you give him time, you're done. that gb o line sucks though

how many did smith win before last yr? i trust harbaugh with his team much more than cats on a gambling forum, doubt he makes the move if he thinks his offense was good enough with smith..keapernick makes them much more dynamic and much tougher to defend their run gm..
