No one gives you credit to make you feel better. They build you up only so when they tear you back down its just that much more satisfying when they do it. Your best bud, your own wife, even your own fukking self, EVERYONE does this. YOU DO. I DO. EVEN FUKKING GANDHI/BUDDHA/THE POPE/THE DALAI LAMA/RICKEY HENDERSON all operate in this screwed up fashion where we just have to snicker at the failures of even our closest friends.

Human nature just sucks. Trust me. I'd put money on it, but I know you'd just be rooting for me to lose, so I'll put it on the Bears ML instead.
    Very sharp post.

Eloquent post, but absolutely not. I don't root for the failures of others cause like the poster below you, it shows someone can "stick it to the man"
I like your Maynard quote. Smart guy..
But when I sense this pattern (rooting against my BETS, which was the original context) with people, I change my relationship with them immediately.

Edit: trust no one, I get it. We're talking about sport bets here aren't we? why hate on me making some money dude?!?

I dont talk to him anymore. Its the way of the world buddy.
There you go. You can't expect a friend to be happy for you talking up how much luck you are having and then at the same time you rather not share in the success. It works both ways. Why should be happy just for you when both can get in on it? You can't paint him in negative light and then annoint yourself the aggrieved party.

I agree with the above... Why in the world would your friend's winning be so awful in to you? I can MAYBE understand if you had put a ton of effort into data analysis and modeling to generate your picks, but even then I'm sure you could come up with some agreement (such as you get a certain amount of his winnings for a given time period or something).

Sometimes I get text alerts from motherfukkers I've told what I've got when it doesn't work out...like "you can kiss that parlay goodbye" or "braves lost". Yeah motherfukker, I'm the one with the balls to lay the money down, of course I know they lost. Cockgobber.

                nope
... just the way of a ..as you put it 'SELFISH" and as I put it "PRICK"
I wouldn't want to be responsible for a friend possibly losing money on my picks so I wouldn't share either if I was on a winning streak.

i have lived alone for 5 years but had the exact situation. This guy(my roommate of 6 months) was a sports fanatic and non gambler. I'd tell him a bet I made and I'd catch him cheering for the opposite team. I decided to test this with reverse psychology with telling the opposite of what i actually bet and sure enough it was factual, guy rooting against me.

It's best not to talk about gambling with non gamblers. as somone mentioned some people think gambling is a bad thing and get some sort of perverse thrill out of witnessing somone lose.
