Donald Trump Says Can Legally Get Out Of A-Rod's Contract
Was on the Mike and Mike show.

    Buried A-Rod.

Said he is one of the worst postseason hitters he ever saw. That he's not a great champion like Jeter is. Says all he does is strike out anymore.

Made a great and articulate argument that since A-Rod announced that he used steroids AFTER he signed the contract with the Yankees, that he, in fact, committed misrepresentation and that the Yankees, can legally (and should) get out of this horrible contract.

I like Trump. Say what you will about him but at least he's entertaining if nothing else.

How would he know? Has he seen his contract? He isn't a lawyer, but he plays one on TV?

I would argue that even if the Yankees could have rescinded his contract after the steroids admission (I doubt it, but let's assume they could have) that the doctrine of estoppel by silence would apply now and it would be too late that this point to assert that right. Why should the Yankees be able to get out of it now that he's doing poorly. If they had a right then they had it years ago (can't recall exactly when the admission was) and by waiting until he started performing poorly they put him at an unfair disadvantage.

Trump is neither great nor articulate.

        Why wouldn't it?

The Yankees thought they were getting a player who achieved his success honestly. They signed him to a contract thinking so.

A-Rod admitted steroid use AFTER he signed. Clear misrepresentation.

Why should the Yankees be left holding the bag for this clown?

It's a pretty clear argument the Yankees thought they were getting one player and instead got another.

yeah they didn't try to cancel the contract after the information was made known, so they then accepted the terms of the contract.

Could be a lot of reasons for that.

              Public sympathy for one.

No. He was and is in the middle of a long (10 year) contract. If they had an out and wanted to take it they should have done it in short order. They didn't because they either chose not to or weren't legally able to. Either way, the time has past.

Trade him to Miami where he can be put out to pasture.
