Baseball rule question - "owning the batter's box"

If you hit a ball directly over your head, do you have to leave the batters box?

Basically, could you stand directly under the ball to not allow the catcher to make the catch?

I'm pretty sure that no matter where the ball is hit the defensive player has the right to make a play on it so if the batter didn't get out of the way he could be called out for interference.

But you dont have to leave the batters box. So you arent under any obligation to get out of the way.

You don't HAVE to, but you could be called out for interference. Once the ball is put in play, be it fair or foul, any "rights" that the batter has to the box are done if they interfere with the defense's right to make a play on the ball.
