    No Way I Can Lose
I got the Lakers 2 months ago at +200 to win the championship. I just jumped on the Celtics at +160 (should have gotten on them sooner for an even better price) to also win the championship series. Either way I am in the money.
Has anyone else out there ever done this as an actual strategy and what were your results?
I am thinking of grabbing the AL favorite to win the World Series about 6-8 before the end of the season and then grabbing their NL opponent the moment the series line opens up. I figure the AL champ will be the series favorite and I can then have both teams at a plus price. I realize of course this only works if the AL fave gets to the series.
Anyone have any thought on using this as a system or having done so before?

It can work, but be careful. During the ncaa tournament, I tried it with Kansas and Kentucky. Didn't quite work out for me

I wagered the same amount on both teams. I now have the Lakers at +200 and Boston at +160. Return on investment if Lakers win is 50% and if Celtics win 30%.

I was just thinking about that this evening. It seems the best bet is to play the top favorite about 6-8 weeks before the season ends. IF they make it to the finals (which I know does not always happen) they will most likely be the fave to win the finals and you then grab the other team as a dog.
This is the first time I have ever done this. I will be very careful in the future with getting too carried away with this one victory.

Thanks everyone for the advice, etc.

                Good hedging
Its nice to be able to sit back and just enjoy the series knowing you will be a winner one way or the other.
I think Lakers are going to win, so you'll get back more cash

If you are going to just bet the national leaugue winner in the world series you would probably make more by just betting the al favorite to win the AL and not worrying about hedging.

Of course there is no way you can lose now. No way anyone can lose when they have the team that already won the west.

Of course, I posted on this board to take the Lakers to win the West 2 months ago and every response was like -- YOUR FKING NUTS - Kobe's hurt, west has so much competition, Lakers are done, no way, that price sucks, etc. My price was +245.

Nice job nobs. Gotta have some guts once in a while. The secret is knowing when to go for it and when to hold off.

For future hedges, setting it up so that you win the same amount regardless of outcome is a better deal in the long run. In this case:

                        Lakers (+200) x1u
                        Celtics (+160) x1.15u

Would have returned a net profit of 0.85u guaranteed for a 39.5% ROI.

In this case I think you're leaning the right way though as the Lakers have a better shot at winning the series. If the Lakers win Game 1, you'll have access to even fatter odds on Boston to add a little more such that you could push that 39.5% up even higher for a larger guaranteed return. Either way, you're in the black though.
