Noticing crazy unit inflation by cappers
I have noticed that A LOT of cappers, whether it be right here on the boards or on handicapping websites, inflate their profit by using a system where the minimum bet is actually several units. For example, I'm sure you are all quite used to seeing cappers whose MINIMUM bet per pick is 4 units. If your MINIMUM BET is 4 units, then in reality 4 units = 1 unit.

It is something I'll never understand about a lot of cappers, there is no honest reporting. See I don't believe in overinflating numbers by telling people that every bet is worth 4+ units. A lot of cappers will report a $200 bet as if it were four $50 bets - but that results in seeing a lot of people claiming something like +40 units even though the record shows they are really only up 8 bets and barely hitting 53%.

For example, if 4 units were my minimum bet, then at 68-51 (57% over 119 picks), I would be at +47.6 units since February 26th haha, which we all know is pretty misleading given the actual 68-51 record, but that's exactly what I am talking about.

What do the rest of you guys think about this? It seems to be very common.

I think a part of it is people starting with a certain amount for a unit then getting up a good amount and increasing how much they play on each game but not changing their unit amount that they report I guess.

def keep it simple, if it is a case of peoples bankroll getting larger they should be readjusting the unit

I totally agree with what you're saying on principle, however, a minimum bet in one sport may not be the same as a minimum bet in another sport. For me, a minimum bet in MLB is 1u, but I rarely play a spread or total in the NBA for less than 2-3u.

Take a look in the Think Tank for information on Z-Scores if you want to learn about how to evaluate a handicapper in a way that levels the playing field. It describes your overall success as a function of wager size and the odds played.

              bottom line - 1 unit should always = $100.

if not, it should be disclosed in your signature what 1u or 1x ='s...

touts do what you're saying..........remember nfl guru..............20 units min per play.

for forum and record keeping purposes I think its better to stick to 1 and 2 unit plays

1 unit = $100 in my bankroll and wagering strategies.

You have to be very careful with cappers who are known for devious ways. Take yourself for example, disguising yourself as a regular poster in this forum while promoting your service. Plus there's the creation of extra accounts to give the illusion you have followers who truly believe in you. Tsk, tsk.

if you have a unit scale based on 1-10, I don't see anything wrong with having plays that range from 1-10 units. That is how you make money, when you have a pick you really like you hammer the snot out of it. I see what your saying when it comes to 20/30units picks and that sort of thing but even then who says you can't put 50 units on a pick you are in love with.
