rick's (who's absolutely killing it at this meet) got 2 horses in the jerome (R8) at aqueduct today (#8 @ 2-1 ) and (#3 @ 8-1).. the latter went from a 5f off the turf at indy (factoring the big win) to being 5-2 in a 1 mile allowance at aqueduct where he
finished 2nd after stumbling at the start .. my thoughts are with the betting action he took last race and how well rick is doing at the meet that "#3 ican" is an interesting horse to consider today ..also manny franco gets on him vs the ml favorite (his other horse)
other note:
john robb has the 2nd choice who ships in from laurel but has raced here his last two starts

I see that Rick IS killing it the last month or so. I guess he is using the same drug they found hidden in the front drawer of his desk. Lololol.
That episode gets more ridiculous as time goes on. Just pathetic. Shame on THEM.
But, staying on point, this one looks like it can keep getting better and typically the 3rd start out is the best of the three as typical training habits go as we have talked about.
His other horse , McAfee also starts for the 3rd time. He is a 1/2 brother to some horse named Torpedo Anna? I guess she is ok.
Cyclone State is nice as well but the waters start getting deeper here especially with both of Ricks hitting that 3rd start marker. A hidden stat of his that should not be lightly dismissed IMO.
Both of Ricks look really solid JBEX. And we found Studlydoright. He belongs as well but with both of Ricks improving, I find it hard to look past both. I think both will represent themselves well today. Maybe an exacta box with a lean in one direction?
Thanks for the heads up.

nice find on the sibling of the 8 being
thorpedo anna..I think that along with how good robb's looks in the pp's might give some value to the 3
other business
by army mule..gulfstream R1 #5 human desire (20-1) @ 12:20 ..cheap horse going up against a lot of expensive big pedigree competition..ran real nice race at 43-1 in his debut at woodbine and ships here off that ..

This one probably has poor confirmation, meaning a leg screwed on sideways or something unbecoming to the eye that could compromise his long term ability, thus the lesser expensive price when purchased . That said, there is nothing wrong with his heart. Just another hard tryin SOB.
What a solid sire AM is. Doubt he is good enough but he will try.

he was off for 50 days and only one 4f work 13 days ago ..finished < 6 lengths from the winner..maybe with the long ship they weren't able to get more work into him ..would seem like a good candidate for a drop to maiden claimers factoring what he cost ..be more fit returning in 3-5 weeks with this race in him

Always like looking at the head on shots on the replays of the race..... seeing how they track at you...as far as an indication of conformation... of course lot's more involved than that... Lord knows I tried to keep up with my cousin when she was evaluating horses at sales...
Just noticed "Eagles Flight" half brother to Flightline made his second start today after a long layoff. If you recall He trounced " Visceral" a horse I had a part of in his first start
.https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-rac...ree-length-win
In a Merry go round race "Mirahmadi" a Baffert trained horse led pretty much wire to wire Flightline ran second.

also keep in mind they have an all weather surface just like he ran his debut on at woodbine..think they'll be plenty of opportunities as all 3 surfaces could be considered for a start

He most likely worked and was not timed by DRF somewhere along the way but you have a valid point. He should be better next out off that effort it would seem. That effort seems like it was a real positive in there JBEX.

I just looked and my question is, why do trainers get beat 33 lengths, 16 lengths and 30 lengths in their last 3 starts and run back in the same race again?
This horse will try his ass off and this is what you give the horse in return? I know I have said this for years now, and incredibly, sometimes those hard trying horses jump up and run very well. It always baffled me why a trainer would do this.
IMO, use that terrible last race to the horses advantage and give him some class relief. Put that trying to maximum use. I never understood trainers that did that and still don't. And yes, they win or jump up sometimes, but those jump ups would be many more wins with lesser competition.
Let's see how he does. Whatever he does do, it will be all him. No help from his handler IMO.

Well I was going to comment that sometimes the owner thinks too much of his/her horse and the trainer wants a client...... aaaand then I looked to see who the owner was..... enough said....

I just watched the race and hadn't looked back in the forum to see your post till after I looked at the pp's again .. couldn't agree more with you..I get that she
ran 1 good race here at this level
but 4 straight losses by an average of over 20 lengths ..why again !
they easily won over $40k since the $20k claim so ahead of the game (understand not counting expenses) ..belongs in a claimer or possibly a starter allowance .. maybe a cutback in distance based on the early speed to the 6f mark in routes although she has run well going two turns before ..trying a route again at this level is insane and doubt that they will

One of the best quotes I ever heard was from John Tammaro Sr. ,(A heck of a horseman),when we were sitting on a bench at Keenland at the sales one year many years ago. He said to me and Tony D. " Be a good horseman first but after that Boys, winning races is simply a matter of placement".
That always stuck with me.

missed that
headline numbers ran a disappointing 5th at aqueduct on sunday..no apparent excuse as far as I saw but a little surprised they cut back to 7f when her 2 prior were at 9f

It is surprising that he left her up there for the winter. I'm sure he had a good reason but I have no idea what that might be. As for the race, she was ok early but dropped the bit about 2/3rds the way around the turn and that was that. Started jumping a bit from the kickback about the 5/16ths pole (just after dropping the bit) but had nothing from the 1/4 pole home. Surprising result.

might be linked to the bad performance..off what she's done it's definitely a gulfstream ship type horse

I posted earlier, maybe not well spoken, as to why trainers do/or don't move horses South/North/West. Just seems there's a story in there somewhere??

this condition at gulfstream would probably be a tougher field .. take a stab and say maybe it's less important for a 4yo to run there vs a 3yo as the path to the ky oaks is not there
..why not go up against easier horses up north but still was not able to finish in the money

There are indeed a ton of reasons to go south for the winter or not, but we have no idea what the actual reason might be. That was a very disappointing effort for Headline Numbers. She was never really in it. Definitely a reason behind the non effort. Interesting to see if we will know the answer down the road.

There usually is Madison. A lot of it is stuff we would not be able to see. The cool part though, is everything is thought through when it comes to these decisions. You go right down your list of horses and their is a plan, albeit rough or set in stone, as to what you will be doing for the next couple of months with everyone of them. Then, you go day to day and see what adjustments are needed and where.

finished 5th of 5 (just noting a small field) and lost by < 2 lengths..lost significant ground on the turns..about as good a last place finish you can have in a very small field

Interesting race JBEX.
Maiden 50k and she seems to fit in here very well. She should run a solid race in here IMO.
Couple other things with this race.
The 4 horse is for sale for 50k. Did not look up her mare but her breeding suggests she could be worth 50k as a broodmare now. Let's see if she gets claimed.
Same with the 5 horse although she did race for 50k and no takers. Seems she would be worth that as a broodmare.
Again, same with the 7 horse. A Candy Ride that Myracehorse is part owner of.
I'm just going on breeding. I did not look up any of these for more info.
Batt could maybe shed more light on this one. But, he very well could be dealing with that terrible fire in Calif. that is near Santa Anita and in the Pacific Palisades I think. If so, stay safe Batt !!!
Not your everyday Maiden 50 JBEX. A good race.

it's almost too good a betting race and not sure who I'd settle on besides cassopeia (AM)..i do like her..had lots of extreme posts in big fields and gets the right class level today with the drop..3rd off the layoff and think the even run vs better last out gives her a nice foundation
yeah some nice pedigrees on the the ones you mentioned and in spite of not winning did some decent running in the races they were in..combo could give them the potential to produce solid offspring
yes hope batt is OK if he is out there battling those fires !

A little distracted with the fires down south. My team is next out so I have been working on getting additional safety officers to help if we are called. They extended the red flag warning for winds.... ugh... praying for no new starts....
