    BTP standings before MNF?
Prick has one loss and one game left. If he wins it, only the 4-0 contestants get paid.

So is the idea to show how many 4-0 winners there are on Monday, before MNF?

      DH,
Not to pick nits but that's not entirely correct. 3-0-1 for 4 points will also be winners.
Of course, since there is no scoreboard for us to follow on...we have no idea if there are any of those 3-0-1 folks, do we?

Hey DH. Someone said you weren't posting here any more. Glad that isn't true.

Yeah I don't know what the deal is with BTP. It used to be that you could see what was going on and follow it and know who everyone had and who to root for and against. It stoked the enthusiasm.

Now it all seems like a big secret.

I don't now how many people are playing or how people are doing. Not that I have put much effort into hunting for the info but you didn't have to do anything before. It was front and center. This secrecy seems like a weird direction to go. I would have thought publicity was the ticket for something like BTP.

Well I'm rooting against the Prick and the Packers with my 3-1 for +3. I don't know what kind of money it would be though.

BTP is a fun contest. Glad that little piece of history was preserved. I do like the part that the Prick now has to make a MNF pick. Although I don't see the point of that if we're not going be be able to see the standings. I'm rooting for the Prick and the Packers, but I have no idea what kind of money it would be either.

As to the first part of your post, I came here because I found it informative, and for a number of years it was. This forum has some absolute gems of people, who taught me a lot, but lately the number of neanderthals with a keyboard has increased to the point where hanging out here is anything but helpful. I've seen several recent complaints by serious posters like TLD and donjuan, and others not so recent (remember Jay Edgar?), who find the level of stupidity flat out embarrassing, but I don't think they register with SBR. I bowed out (as active member) before I had to choose between a triple digit ignore list and a double digit IQ. The final drop, to me, was when BTP rules were changed to where old-timers could no longer participate, but that has since been changed back. So I'm still enjoying all the good stuff that SBR has brought to players. Just took a while to realize that this forum is not, or no longer, among that quality offering.

I am thinking that the reason why Prick is now compelled to always make a pick on the Monday night game was designed by the contest rule makers to stimulate more interest and thereby more action on the MNF game. I suggest that this goal would be best met by allowing players to see how many other players have a chance to beat Prick on any given Monday giving players a more educated justification for hedging. Showing the standings going into the MNF game makes sense to me. Could make a great contest more fun

Yeah, if I were 4-0 I would probably make a hedge wager to guarantee myself some money, this is a somewhat free contest after all.

Shame on SBR for not releasing standings, it's only hurting the sponsor books.

Yes I remember Jay Edgar very well.

You don't have to sell me on the rest. As you probably remember, I was one of the original mods here. And I came here full of ideals that we were going to build something different and special based on quality.

That's what it seemed like SBR stood for in the industry. I expected this forum to be an extension of that. I assumed it. I worked at it. I believed in it so much, I probably would have done it for free. (Well okay probably not for free but hopefully you get my point.)

I was so extremely surprised to find out that SBR John's vision was of a jjgold forum. I am still surprised in many ways. But obviously John got his way and we see the inevitable results. To you and I and Jay Edgar et al, it is appalling; to some people it is as wonderful as it gets.

From a business standpoint, I have to assume it was the right move on John's part. Like so many things in our society, the dumbed down stuff is the most profitable.

Our experiences of extreme disillusionment are probably very similar. Perhaps mine just came first.

But I really do have a hard time understanding this decision of secrecy over publicity for BTP. Oh well. Go Vikings.

Actually the 4-0 people have already won. It's people like me at 3-1 +3 who might think about hedging (although the prize money is a bit unclear so I don't think we know what is at stake. I wouldn't hedge anyway but I'm just saying.)

Mind you the 4-0 people probably stand to make a lot more money if the Prick goes 3-1 +3 and cuts us all out of the loop. I guess the Packers would be very good for them. But again, I'm not positive I understand how the prizes work.

I just noticed this in the main forum. It is relevant here:

As for the prize structure, according to the BTP Rules and Prize Information on SBRcontests.com ...

                        • The Beat The Prick football handicapping contest offers a weekly prize pool of $5000 USD, to be split amongst all contestants who score higher than The Prick for that week.

                        • 100% of the weekly prize pool will be prorated amongst all players who actually Beat The Prick that week. The prize amounts will be weighted fairly so that winning contestants scoring more points will receive a larger portion of the pool than players scoring less points that week.

Also 3-1, +3 (1 loss, best bet win). B/c tonight is Pricks best bet if the +3's make it (GB loses ATS) so do the +2's, +1's, 0's which means everyone receives a prorated pittance. Obviously I want to see GB lose so I get some funds but wouldn't be too upset to see a few players get a bigger piece of pie if GB wins.

                              GL all.

im hoping gb wins by 2 exactly tonight to give the prick a push and final score of 1

rather than -1 if gb ats loses, or a 3 (to tie me) if gb ats wins

it would be nice to know everyones scores right now so i know about how much is at stake

Last year we could see all the picks b4 the games went off. That was great and part of the reason i play BTP. This year they put in 5k a week and now they dont want you seeing the picks????
sounds to fishy to me....is some one from oddsmaker running this now?
I mean come on do you have to hide how many got in? Do you not want to make a true pay out each week or were the books who pay not happy?
