Are these fantasy sports sites going to survive?
Daily Joust, traffic seems dead for the NFL. Starts this week already and entries seem very low.

Fan Duel a lot more entries, mostly the lower buy-ins, no season long tourney which is lame.

You'd think with the NFL coming it be getting crazy traffic, am I missing something? is everyone waiting till last day?

These sites should have some survivor leagues or some office pools or something more,

Short answer is, no. A lot of these kind of sites won't survive. However, I wouldn't judge which sites will survive in terms of NFL traffic until a day or two before the games start. That's when you'll really know.

If I were running one of these sites, I'd be offer some VERY nice bonuses around now. Whichever of these sites carries the most traffic will start to gain solid reputation by appearance of many people liking it. Good bonuses offered now could go a long way toward staying alive in a year or two for these sites.

Yeah, the rake is WAY too high. Their business models all seem to be the same... ridiculously high rake, with some of it going back in the form of freerolls. It is a terrible business model if you want to attract players who actually have money to spend. It reminds me of Bodog's failed business model for poker... give away hundreds of thousands of dollars in tourney guarantees and give jack shit to cash players, who are the actuall bread and butter of the site.

I wonder if a well capitalized daily fantasy site who "gets it" will ever come along.

Only the ones with freerolls get any amount of traffic

I like the idea of bonuses around this time of the year, it's fantasy season. Fanduel I've heard is reputable, anyone here ever try Draft Street? I used it a few times last year and actually enjoyed how it went.

The point is that if your traffic consists of people who play one $5 league per week/day, you go bankrupt.

If your traffic consists of people who are betting real money, then you don't go broke. And those people are not wasting time on freerolls, and so are not attracted to those promotions. Lower rake would attract them.

Traffic does not equal money. Money equals money.

Do any of these sites host season long money leagues? For instance, let's say you join up a 12 team league 50+5 buy-in? And the site just basically holds all the funds until the end of the season.

I've only seen the weekly/daily auction pools.

just like the NFL refs, they probably have 2nd jobs
guys running these sites probably have other jobs, how hard is it to set these things up and let them run themselves?

Fanduel is rock solid, they are the only one of the bigger sites that does not offer a daily free roll.
On rare occasions will they offer a free roll, maybe, at most 5 times a season.

Draft Street is my favorite, and I play at five. DS, FD, DJ, DK, and DD.

I have never had an issue regarding payouts from Draft Street, Daily Joust, or Fan Duel.

There used to be a bunch threads on here people posting teams and asking advice, I don't even see one thread about any of these.

I threw a few teams together on FanDuel today, see if I get lucky.
