It's pretty embarrassing that the Astros lost twice as heavy betting favorites this season. I still think they are your likely World Series champions but thats just downright laughable that they were huge favorites twice and lost to arguably the two worst teams in baseball.

#2872NEW YORK METS -- Noah Syndergaard has been getting on track at the right time for the Mets, and that continued in Thursday night’s 2-0 win over the Indians at Citi Field in a rain-shortened eight innings. Syndergaard entered with a 1.65 ERA in his previous four starts. With a scoreless six-inning effort -- cut short by a rain delay of two hours and 28 minutes -- he lowered his ERA over his last five starts to 1.35Comment -

Cervelli has said he will never catch a game again in his life.
He'll be fine, according BR he's made 38 million in his career, not bad for a backup catcher.
Backup catcher is very important though, FC has solid defensive numbers, and .267/.358 is a good slash line considering he only gets 8 or so at bats a week.Comment -

#2879The Angels announced today that star shortstop Andrelton Simmons has been activated from the injured list. He is returning from a long absence due to a severe ankle sprain.
Infielder Wilfredo Tovar was designated for assignment to create roster space. In other news, the club officially placed Griffin Canning on the injured list — he was declared out for the season yesterday — while recalling southpaw Jose Suarez.
It’s all but certainly too little, too late for the sinking Halos. But it’s still good to see Simmons return to action. The peerless defensive aficionado hadn’t been hitting quite as well as he did in his prior two campaigns, but will now have a chance to get back on track before the season wraps up.
Tovar, 28, received his lengthiest stint in the majors this year for the Angels. Through 88 plate appearances in 31 games, he managed only a .193/.239/.253 slash line.Comment -

#2884This season has been a struggle for the Marlins, who have posted the National League’s worst record (45-81) and scored the second-fewest runs in baseball. Third baseman/outfielder Brian Anderson has been one of the few bright spots in their lineup, but his season may have come to an end Friday. Anderson suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal in his left hand after Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez hit him with a 93.9 mph fastball, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com was among those to report.
If we have seen the last of Anderson in 2019, it’ll go down as a second straight effective campaign for the 26-year-old. In his first extensive major league action a year ago, Anderson slashed .273/.357/.400 with 11 home runs and a 113 wRC+ across 670 plate appearances. He has logged almost matching production on a per-PA basis this season, having recorded a 114 wRC+ over 520 attempts. Thanks in part to a red-hot August, he’s a .261/.342/.468 hitter with 20 homers and a .207 ISO – up 80 points from 2018.
The Marlins will recall outfielder Austin Dean from Triple-A New Orleans to replace Anderson, per Andy Slater of 640 The Hurricane. Dean has racked up a combined 210 PA with the Marlins dating back to last season, though he has limped to a .216/.252/.352 line with six HRs in that span.Comment -

#2887That's just insane 30 total runs scored in a Major League Baseball game. I don't think the Marlins have weeks where they score 19 runs sometimes so that part is shocking but one thing for sure is pitching is beyond terrible around the league these days.Comment -

#2893Mets strike out 26 in 14 innings to tie MLB record
The New York Mets tied a major league record with 26 strikeouts in Friday night's 2-1 home loss to the Atlanta Braves in 14 innings.
Seven members of New York's bullpen combined to match the effort of ace Jacob deGrom, who spotted the Mets 13 strikeouts before exiting after seven innings with the score tied 1-1.
The Mets are the fifth team to record 26 strikeouts in a game, and they're the second of those five to lose the game, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The Braves join the 2004 Brewers as the only teams to win a game after striking out 26 times. Milwaukee won 1-0 in 17 innings against the Angels on June 8, 2004.
Mets reliever Jeurys Familia struck out Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies in the top of the 14th to tie the record. It was Familia's third strikeout of the inning but didn't come until after he allowed the go-ahead run to score on a Billy Hamilton single.
Between deGrom's and Familia's appearances, six Mets relievers combined for 10 strikeouts, including four by Seth Lugo, who replaced deGrom and pitched two shutout innings.Comment -

#2895It was in the first inning of tonight’s game with the Royals that Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez swung and missed on a high fastball from pitcher Glenn Sparkman. That, in and of itself, wouldn’t be news–except for the fact that Ramirez signaled for trainers following his swing and was promptly removed from the contest.
Shortly thereafter, the Columbus Clippers–the Indians Triple-A affiliate– removed infielder Yu Chang from their lineup in a game against the Toledo Mud Hens. If you’re reading tea leaves, the conjunction of these two events would seem to be related, and a tweet from MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince confirms that Chang will be called up in the event of an IL placement for Ramirez (link). Castrovince goes on to reveal that Ramirez underwent an MRI on his right wrist tonight, but that it doesn’t appear as if the team will issue a “substantial” update this evening. Meanwhile, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal heard from manager Terry Francona tonight that Ramirez has been dealing with wrist discomfort for “a while” (link).
A sustained absence for Ramirez would seem to spell some level of doom for the Tribe. After back-to-back poor halves to close last season and open this one, Ramirez has reemerged this summer as an offensive beast. His .327 batting average, 13 home runs, and 6 steals through 40 second-half games have gone a long way toward maintaining the team’s position atop the AL Wild Card race–despite a 3-7 record in their last 10 games entering play Saturday. At time of posting, the Indians sit in a three-way tie with the Tampa Bay Rays and the surging Oakland Athletics in a battle for the postseason’s two final play-in spots.Comment -

#2898Giants' Sandoval to have Tommy John surgery
OAKLAND, Calif. -- San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, ending his season, the team announced Saturday.
The procedure is likely Sept. 3 or 4 in Los Angeles and will be done by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who evaluated the 2012 World Series MVP on Wednesday and determined he needed the procedure on his ulnar collateral ligament.
The 33-year-old Sandoval made a comeback with the Giants in 2017 after his release by the Red Sox, and he has been used in various roles by manager Bruce Bochy. Sandoval, on the injured list retroactive to Aug. 11 with inflammation in the elbow, was batting .269 with 14 homers and 41 RBIs in 107 games.
"This was a tough blow for us with the job he's been doing, both starting and coming off the bench,'' Bochy said.Comment -

He provided a little spark this go around for the giants..... and Will always remember his 3 home runs in the Detroit series. I'm glad he came back to the giants after the Red Sox debacle .Comment -
