    Mike Scioscia
    Bruce Bochy
    Josh Bard

I personally dislike Girardi manager, as a manager I couldn't stomach him.
When he was running the Yankees he was stubborn. He's also extremely anal.
Behind the scenes if he disagrees with a GM or front office exec he's been known to ignore.
There's a reason why he was fired by Jeffrey Loria in '06 when he won Manager of the Year Award.
My favorite Girardi story was in a crucial regular season game that year the Marlins were in big game that had Wild Card implications.
Owner Loria thought the umpires were not giving his Marlins any border line calls.
Loria sitting behind the plate began heckling and criticizing HPU Larry Vanover non stop.
Vanover issued warning to Girardi, Between innings Girardi instead of saying to Vanover Loria is entitled to heckle from the stands Girardi approached Loria and basically told him to STFU. The story has it Loria wanted to shit can Girardi right there and then but did it 3 months later.

When he was with the Yankees people I know who work in or with MLB say most of the veterans couldn't stand him and the rookies tolerated him out of fear of minor league demotions. I'm told Jeter wan't very fond of Girardi as a manager, Joe Torre was Jeter's guy, most of the NYY players loved Torre too. Girardi once told Mussina to pitch around or walk David Ortiz during a critical Red Sox game.
Mussina told him pretty much I know how to get Ortiz out etc. and let's just say behind the scenes after the game it really wasn't pleasant.
Rumor has it Mussina retired after winning 20 games that year and after reinventing himself as a pitcher had two more or so good seasons in his arm could have reached 300 career games. Mussina decided at age 37 he had enough of that crap. I don't how much of that is fact though but it's extremely believable.
When he took of the Yankees as a rookie manager he demanded all players to be clean shaven, no facial hair etc. and even banned ice cream from the dugout, Yeah, that kind of anal.

He's great as an analyst on MLB Network and FOX.
He's a really good family man I'm told and a solid private citizen as well.
As a manager and if I was in charge of hiring new coaches I wouldn't give him a call.

Beltran and Ibanez would be interesting fits but either one of them could get the KC job.
Both are loved inside the Royals nation, both played for KC, both of them also does a lot of mentoring with the younger kids.
Ibanez's kid plays for KC, works for the Dodgers in the front office and has one of the best SABR and analytics mind in the business.
I think Beltran gets the KC job. Right now he's an advisor for the Yanks.

Josh Bard is also considered an extremely intelligent analytics guy, has the skill sets most GM's and owners are looking for today as a MLB manager, kids love him too and is Boone's go to guy as his bench coach in the dugout.
Bard also played for SD for a couple of years.

Bochy and Scioscia have tremendous resumes. No need to elaborate here.
    Both would be terrific hires.
Bochy lives in SD but I think his MLB manager days are long gone. I think he's retired for good. He even said that just recently.
Scioscia still lives in the SD area too, insiders say it's his job if offered.

Watch Moises Alou wind up getting the gig,
He has a bright baseball mind and is a proven GM in Latin America in the Dominican league.
Alou can recruit Latin American young talent SD's way as is good with the kids.

I think Scioscia will be the new man for the job.

Giancarlo Stanton remains out of Yankees' lineup with quad injury

Injured slugger Giancarlo Stanton is not in the New York Yankees' starting lineup Thursday for Game 4 of the ALCS against the Houston Astros.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that he was uncertain whether Stanton would play in Game 4. Boone is expected to address the media again later Thursday.
Stanton, sidelined with a strained quad, did a pregame workout and ran the bases Thursday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The injury-riddled outfielder hasn't played since Game 1 on Oct. 12. He is 3-for-10 with a homer and four walks in four games this postseason.
Aaron Hicks will start in center field and bat third while slumping catcher Gary Sanchez will bat seventh.

If Yankees can't tie up the series today, might as well not show up for the next game.

We believe Joe will be a great asset for our club and look forward to him leading the team to another World Series championship."

As BBWAA writers in Detroit prepare to vote on the “Tiger Of The Year” award, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reveals that his vote will go to a player who didn’t suit up for the Tigers after the trade deadline — Nicholas Castellanos. A case could certainly be made that Castellanos was still the best performer on the woeful Tigers, though Fenech took something of a more symbolic stance, arguing that Castellanos “provided a fitting look at the front office’s failure to gain serious ground in their rebuilding process.” After several months of fruitless attempts to move Castellanos, Detroit finally unloaded the slugger to the Cubs for two decent but unspectacular pitching prospects, only to see Castellanos start tearing the cover off the ball after arriving in Chicago.
“How did the Tigers not know this hitter was in there? And why does every player that leave Detroit improve?” Fenech asks, also wondering why the club didn’t make more of an effort to extend a player who openly desired to be a long-term piece for the Tigers. Instead, the lack of progress on either a trade or an extension seemed to wear on Castellanos in the first half of the year, which didn’t help his trade value.

                    • The Indians announced that catcher Roberto Perez underwent arthroscopic surgery in order to remove bone spurs from his right ankle. The procedure isn’t considered serious, and Perez is expected to be fully ready for the start of Spring Training. Moving into a starting role for the first time, Perez responded with a career year in 2019, hitting .239/.321/.452 with 24 home runs over 449 PA. He was also arguably the game’s best defensive catcher, throwing out 20 of 49 would-be base-stealers and ranking at or near the top of the league in blocking and framing metrics.
                    • Royals left-hander Richard Lovelady also went under the knife, as the team announced that the rookie will be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks after right knee surgery. A tenth-round pick in the 2016 draft, Lovelady made his MLB debut last season, posting a 7.65 ERA over 20 innings (25 games) out of Kansas City’s bullpen. A .412 BABIP contributed to Lovelady’s inflated ERA, as his 4.16 FIP/4.75 xFIP/4.58 SIERA presented a much more respectable picture of his first season. The 24-year-old is expected to compete for a job in the Royals’ pen during Spring Training.

Bryce Harper: No jealousy to see Nationals in World Series

Even though he'll be watching from afar rather than playing, Philadelphia Phillies mega-signing Bryce Harper says there is no jealousy that his former team, the Washington Nationals, is about to make its first World Series appearance in franchise history.

"I think it's about being able to be the person that I am and not saying to myself, 'Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm not a National.' Or, 'Oh my gosh, those guys are doing what they're doing. I can't believe it. I'm so jealous,'" Harper told The Athletic for a story published Friday. "No. I'm so happy for them. You know how hard it is to get into the postseason and win games. For them to be able to put it together this year the way they have, it's an amazing thing."

The first anniversary of the Mets’ hiring of Brodie Van Wagenen is fast approaching. There have been some ups and downs, as might be expected. He’s currently looking for a new skipper and plotting a course for the coming offseason. One thing that is clear: the Mets are trying to win now. Van Wagenen’s task is to end a three-year postseason drought. But he’s going to have a tough time adding to his existing slate of talent unless he’s handed a larger purse to work with this winter. It’s not exactly a new situation in Queens, but it’s one worth examining anew with the market soon set to open.
The win-now mission was already evident, but its immediacy was highlighted and enhanced by the organization’s mid-summer transactions and non-transactions. On July 12th, the Mets sat 11 games under .500. By the time they had agreed to acquire Marcus Stroman on July 28th, they had closed that to five games under. And on the day after the deadline, the Queens denizens were three shy of even and in the middle of a wondrous hot streak that totally flipped the script on the season.
Trouble was, the Mets’ fate was always been tied inextricably to stumbles from the teams ahead of them. And they needed more than they could get. The Mets matched or bested a laundry list of mid-level National League teams. That was something of an accomplishment. But the outcome — no realistic hope entering the final week of the season — was exceedingly likely at the time of the deadline. With so many teams clustered ahead of the Mets late this summer, it was all but inevitable that a few would emerge. As it turned out, two of those ballclubs played about as well as the Mets have over the final two months of the campaign. With their preexisting advantages, the Nats and Brewers cruised ahead of their rivals in New York. This is why those playoff odds charts seemed so gloomy in late July.
So what was the point of that win-now-oriented deadline approach? Well, it certainly put more butts in the seats down the stretch. It helped breathe life into what had been a moribund season. It enabled the Mets to return to the ranks of the winning (86-76) and perhaps launched some forward momentum.
More importantly, though, this past summer’s decisionmaking was the start of the construction of the 2020 roster. Adding Stroman, while dumping Jason Vargas, was mostly salary-neutral for 2019. But it put a big number on the books for 2020 and cost the Mets one near-majors hurler (along with a further-off prospect). Hanging onto Zack Wheeler, who seems exceedingly likely to receive and decline a qualifying offer, meant foregoing a chance to recoup upper-level prospect depth in preference for a half season of Wheeler’s pitching and likely draft compensation.
Taking on Robinson Cano’s contract and sacrificing some intriguing prospects to get Edwin Diaz had already set the Mets down this trail. The 2019 trade deadline was Van Wagenen and co. pressing bravely on for glory rather than seeking a path back to relative safety.
So … let’s take stock of where the Mets stand with the offseason upon us. Juan Lagares and Todd Frazier are off the books, but that doesn’t mean there’s money to spend on replacements or other upgrades. Here are some of the major expenses that are either locked in or all but assured to be picked up:
                                        Guaranteed Salary
                                        • Yoenis Cespedes: $29MM
                                        • Robinson Cano: $20.25MM (net of Mariners’ portion of obligation)
                                        • Jacob deGrom: $23MM salary ($12MM deferred); $10MM signing bonus payment 1/2/20
                                        • Jed Lowrie: $9MM salary; $1MM bonus payment in 11/15/19 & $500K bonus payment 1/15/20 (contract also includes $2.5MM bonus payment 1/15/21)
                                        • Wilson Ramos: $9.25MM
                                        • Jeurys Familia: $11MM ($1MM deferred)
                                        • Justin Wilson: $5MM
                                        • Total: $105MM payable during 2019-20 offseason/2020 season

                                        Projected Arbitration Salaries

                                        Other Obligations

There are many ways to tally all of this, and we don’t know exactly how the Mets are thinking about it internally, but that’s a big slate of preexisting commitments. In the past, the club has reportedly treated Wright’s ongoing payouts as part of its payroll, even though he’s finished playing. Whether that’s the case — and what exactly the insurance work-out looks like — isn’t known. It’s also not totally clear how the club views the deGrom and Familia deferrals or Lowrie’s final bonus payout.
If we tabulate only cash owed this winter and in the 2020 season, and presume the team will be paying $3MM of the Wright contract, that still puts the cash payroll at a minimum of $161.5MM (presuming league-minimum salaries for ten roster spots not otherwise accounted for by the players listed above). Perhaps the team has it a bit lower or a bit higher for its internal purposes, but that seems like a good number to start with based upon what we do know.
Trouble is, the Mets have never yet started a season with a payroll that reached $160MM. They were close to $150MM in 2009 and over that amount in each of the past three seasons. But it seems the Mets are right about at capacity, barring a northward movement in spending allocation for the MLB roster.
So, unless the Wilpon ownership group is preparing to commit more cash to the cause, the front office is going to have to get very creative. The Mets roster does have quite a bit of talent, but it’s also the same essential unit that fell short this year and could certainly stand to be supplemented in several areas. There’s no true center fielder. We all know how the bullpen looked in 2019. The rotation is missing one piece and still also needs depth. Mis-fitting first baseman Dominic Smith might bring back a useful and affordable player, though it isn’t as if he alone will nab a quality pre-arb starter. And the farm system has already been mined for the aforementioned trades, making it tough to commit further prospect capital.
Big-contract swaps? Trading away quality, younger players? A deeper dig into the farm? There are conceivable possibilities, though none jump off the page as being obviously beneficial. There’ll be high stakes and tough choices to make for the Mets front office this winter — unless, perhaps, ownership has a winter payroll bonus planned for Van Wagenen and company to play with.

CC Sabathia's career done as Yankees add Ben Heller to ALCS roster

The New York Yankees officially removed CC Sabathia from the roster for the American League Championship Series on Friday, replacing him with right-handed reliever Ben Heller.
Sabathia would not be eligible to return should the Yankees get to the World Series, so the 39-year-old left-hander has made his final appearance in pinstripes.
Sabathia's knee buckled and his shoulder seemed to give out as he tried to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning of the Houston Astros' 8-3 win in Game 4 of the ALCS on Thursday night. He walked off the mound toward second, spoke with head athletic trainer Steve Donohue and tried a warm-up toss, hoping somehow to push through, but he had to leave.
Fans chanted Sabathia's name as he limped off the field with tears in his eyes. He already had announced that he would retire after the season.

This is a game of whose middle relievers suck the worse tonight.
And since this game is a 50/50 toss up my money is on NYY at +130.

                                                              Tough way to go out......
